Dan;
You didn't mention if you are sorting your cases by capacity. My experience is that capacity variation is the biggest single contributor for any given load combo to velocity variation.
That being said, you can see from the external ballistics the vertical drop difference at 400 yards is...
Same as always. First try was Hornady Unique on the body and Imperial Graphite in and on the neck. After running into resistance I lubed the neck with Unique as well.
I picked some Nosler Blem 7mm Rem Mag brass up from SPS a few weeks ago. Price was about what I pay for Hornady brass. The brass had a few scratches and such like I expected.
I didn't size them just primed and loaded 12 of them to plink and get some once-fired cases. Priming them was a...
Weigh a sample of 10 of the new Remington brass and a sample of 10 of the LC and compare the average weights and the standard deviations. I would think a difference of 10grs or more in the averages on that size case would be significant.
Ramshot Silhouette. Seems like Ramshot powders are in-stock more than the Hogdon stable of powders especially for the guys out West.
Last year I couldn't find pistol primers for a long time and this year their on sale but pistol powder supply is now thin.
Most of my experience with Ramshot Hunter is in the 338 WM.
Western Powder on it's FAQ page states that their powder varies 3%-5% over -40 to 125 Deg F.
That works out to 0.0003% per degree F.
My Chrono readings between 15 to 70 degrees agrees with that although not exactly linear. None of...
I expect you could kill an Eland with a 22 LR but it would not be my choice.
I am heading to Africa for the first time and will be taking a 338 WM for Kudu and Gemsbok. The larger bullets have a reputation for taking the bigger stuff more "Positively". In Africa; an animal hit, recovered or...
Bob,
I have a 338 Mag Vanguard S2 and use a slip-on Limbsaver sorbothane pad when I shoot it off of the bench. Takes a whole lot of the sting out of it.
For Rifle Dies I have stayed with RCBS because I like their sizing die. I do have a Forester set for one caliber and it works well, especially the sliding seating die. More pricey than RCBS obviously.
I tired one Hornady rifle die set and the sizing die was terrible.
That being said, I do use...
"The object of weighing and sorting brass is to group together brass with the same internal volume, and thus improve consistency, right?"
Yes. Chronograph readings will show a marked reduction in Shot-to-Shot Velocity variation. This does NOT necessarily translate to improved group sizes...
