Well, who doesn’t know what a 30’06 is….. Well, that would probably be the newer kids on the block who are infatuated with the Creedmoor.
My real first high-powered rifle was a 1960’s Model 700 30’06 Springfield BDL, but had the pressed checkering type stock with what had to be the longest...
Nothing wrong with being a little Euro considering they were developed long ago.
7mm Mauser was always a favorite. They made more than a few really good cartridges, that said I just didn’t want to deal with finding the brass for them, or if they would just disappear. So I sold the few I did...
I’ve been Turkey hunting for a few weeks now. I saw this Tom with seven Hens last night in my south pasture just before dark and knew they’d be flying down the next morning. I just didn’t expect it to take two hours!
What you’re Not understanding is two fold.
One is the case head is dimensionally off as you noticed between the two, which is why it won’t chamber.
The other is belted mags have three points in contact, or control of headspace off the shoulder, the belt and the case head.
Trimming the OAL...
Paul,
If you’re going to stick with RL-17 try to develop your loads in the same environment as you will hunt in. That way you’ll have a better understanding of what velocity you’re going to be seeing when hunting?
Back when I was using RL-17 as the sun came up it was usually on the chilly...
Man, all this 338/06 cartridge talk had me looking at a 22” Benchmark CF 1:9.5” .338 blank I could spin onto my Terminus Kratos 280AI.
That said, my neck is sore just looking down at this moment reminding me why I sold all my .338’s!
Over ten years ago I converted my 338 LM TRG/42 to a 8”...
If you’re curious about how long or short your chamber is Sinclair makes and sells a cheap $6 slug that will tell you exactly the OAL of your chamber.
It’s listed as a Sinclair chamber length gage, and sell them in the caliber, .224, .243, .257, etc. you’ll need.
Which will tell you when you...
Get yourself a Sinclair-Wilson case trimmer, and the shell holder(s) for the case you want to trim.
Buy a “Fired” case holder vs “New” unless you wish to trim the new cases.

I’m going to do more of a speed demon, 25/7PRC , but I had been planning on something a little milder, 25/284? Borden Timberline Mag action with a Watts extended box in a Hawken M5 BDL, that allows you to swap it out for a M5 DBM. It’s going into another MCS T Elite Tach Carbon stock so it...
Be cautious with RL-17 when the temperature rises so does the pressure. I used it back in 2017 or 2016 in my GAP 260 for competitions and sadly was unable to keep it at the expected velocity when I developed it.
I had always used 42.5 H4350 behind a 139 Scenar. Why I thought the extra speed...
You’ll still want to loosen the lock ring, and make contact with the each different shell holder for the proper shoulder bump if you’re working with different rifles.
If you’re using the .010” and making contact with it, and change the shell holder to the .002 there’s a .008” difference of a...
Super cool pic Tom, love the fern pattern on your rifle! I’ve used Fern Leaves numerous times for rattle can paint jobs along with a Grass pattern on my aluminum duck boats.
Glad to hear that you fixed the issue. That said, Remington primers seem to have soft cups compared to CCI, and Federal.
I’ve tested their primers again recently and they’re usually very flat, and look like they were almost going to go through the cup. Those were BR 7 1/2 SRP. CCI BR and...
I’ve shopped with them for decades! Spent big bucks too the smallest, always a good buy.
They usually have the optics that I’m looking for, and sometimes they put them on sale as well for a good price.
Last Fall it was Schmidt & Bender scopes up to 40% off depending on the model. Guns and...
Welcome to the Nosler forum! That and you’re using one of my favorite cartridges!
Super cool pic….. Of course the rifle, that said your plane would be too but you’re single shot is sexy.
It simplifies the whole process! During sizing a case can stretch and actually grow in length if you’re not making contact with the shell holder. This eliminates that, and allows each piece of brass to be sized down as close to the same as possible.
You’ll love it! Not only that just write down...
