The reason I ask the series is the S2 hit the market in 2012. The rifle you have is older than that. If your FIL bought it a few years ago most likely it was used. Before burning up more loads I would scrub that barrel clean and get an affordable Teslong borescope and inspect the barrel and crown.

Easiest is the series 2 has a 3 position safety.

This is the exact reason I bought the 30-378 years ago. With my trusty 308 Win sometimes they would do their 30yd death run to the river , not no more.

A local guy I use is $250 to chamber and $75 for muzzle threading. Barrel prices can very greatly between manufacturers.

Was this new brass sized before loading? New brass should hold a bullet with decent neck tension. Have you check the diameter of the suspect bullets to see if they might be undersized?

The only powder I loaded 25-06 with is IMR4350 with 117gr Sierra GK and 120gr Federal Fusions. Too bad the stuff is hard to come by today and is priced ridiculous.

Got extractor filed down to function. I did shorten the bolt stop and modified the mag box spacer to allow for the longer cartridge. The bolt picks up the cartridge and cycles it. One hickup is my ejector is sticking , not sure if I bent it installing the retaining pin. Barrel is torqued to 90...
