Really hoping I don't have to wait till '25 to find some primers though that is great news. Another 400M of them on the market sure can't hurt anything and like you say if their quality matches their powders should be real good stuff.
You're absolutely right Doc. I'm most likely still bringing the 350. I have a woodstove in the tent so can dry everything out each day so I'm not too worried about the weather. She also shoots great so it's no loss there either.
Thanks for all the kind words gentleman. I'm very happy with how she has come around. The next, and probably final, iteration will most likely be to bring her to my smith and have her pillared and bedded in a more traditional hunting stock. Then also have him fit the Magpul bottom metal to it...
So that sets me on the Journey. I dig around, do some research, buy some stuff etc. I "meet" a bunch of great guys on this forum that I could never thank enough, whether they knew they were helping me or not. I get my feet wet and eventually take the dive as most of us do.
I tinker with the...
So we traveled around together for a while, trying new things along the way. Never could really find anything any better than that Partition load for a couple years though. Then one day I'm in the gun shop and see a box of Winchester Supreme 180gr Accubonds. Hmm, haven't tried those yet, why...
After moving to Alaska permanently in 2004 from the East Coast, and borrowing friends rifles for a couple of years, in 2006 I decided it was time for my own. A 30-'06 had always been my want so I set about deciding which one. Settling on a Model 700 XCR I ordered one from a local gun shop...
Nice job Bear. At work myself at the moment and counting the days till I get out of here and head out to camp on the 15th. Hopefully the rain lets up by then...
My 700 Classic in 350 Rem Mag. Perfectly balanced and sized for me, fast handling, accurate and a thumper to boot. A joy for me to shoot. Recently got into a bunch of 180gr Hot Cors so that I can really shoot her more now and save the 225 Partitions for the field. Though I might sell 100 of the...
Been looking at that same rifle myself. Will stick with my 350 Rem Mag for most things but I feel that would be a great truck gun in the Whelen. Interested to see how she shoots for you.
257 Robert's in a '98 Mauser. Just about my most accurate rifle with 115 BT's over an overbook charge of RL22. With the long throat and box I'm able to load them way over book length and squeeze another few fps out of it. Runs low 2900's.
Been thinking about picking up a .257 Weatherby.
Great numbers all around right there. Shouldn't be much tinkering left to do for bugholes.
My 260 Accubond load in my 700 is loaded to max box length and still jumps a full .260" to the lands. Shoots moa or better depending on me that particular day. Was kind of surprised when I worked it up...
With the flat point and loaded to max box length the ogive should actually sit closer to the lands than with a Spitzer at the same OAL so on the jump it may be better.
Just some small surface rust issues and one spot in one of my barrels. Not bad on anything though not pleasing either. It's actually only occurring on 2 rifles, one I've had for years and one is new in the last couple months. Just happened to catch them on their monthly checkup. It's strange...
I own approximately 15 leupolds, 2 of which are the 4.5-14's. I've never had an issue with them specifically. I had an older, probably 30 years old, vx3 1.5-5 go bad on me last year as it wouldn't hold zero. Sent it back to them and had it back in hand fully rebuilt about a month later. Has...
I was wondering if any/many of you fine gentlemen have used the Bore Coat and Gun Shield products from Dyna Tek. If so your thoughts and experiences with it would be appreciated.
I'm looking at them more for protectants than the reduction of fouling though I hear that is an added benefit...
People are crazy. I've often thought about the shill bidders too; I think at this point it's mainly just panic buying though. I feel it's at least yet another year for supply to really catch up. Prices....who knows. When everything is 50-100% more retail now reloading wise it'll never go back to...
Well it's 55 and pouring rain on the Kenai at the moment so you're not missing a whole lot weather wise. Been hot and dry up till 2 days ago though so can't complain. Enjoy retirement and a whole lot more porch sodas, looks like a nice place.
