I've found H4831SC (called AR2213SC here) to be slower than usual in recent batches, for several years. That may or may not be a factor in your findings too.
In 270 and 25-06 loads, the batches were sufficiently slow that I needed to load a grain or two above book max loads to get book max speeds.
I'm thinking the 308 with the 125g NBT or 125 Accubond would be a nice mild pig and goat load with plenty of punch launched around 3100fps, with something in the 165/168g bracket at 2650-2700fps or so for large deer species.
Good to see these put through the jugs.
I am considering a 6.5 CM myself and the 129 ABLR for hunting with the 129g Interlock for plinking and feral animal culling are in the thinking.
Thanks.
Hah Mike he got a rise out of you didn't he?
Should have mentioned I'm thinking short action, hence the 270 is off down the road. I love the cartridge and it's been my go to general use round for a good few years now... But...
It just seems I can get much of what it does, done with a little...
I'm going through some rationalisation of my modest rifle battery and looking to divest a few, and consolidate into a small handful of hunting rifles.
In line to be offloaded are my trusty 270 Win Zastava, the little BSA in 250 Sav AI, a couple of clunky, old and heavy 308 Wins, a sporterised...
Scott, no doubt a joyous yet sad occasion. Well done and best wishes for the next chapter.
No doubt there'll be employers lined up offering you plenty of opportunities!
Good pics mate. Hoping to get out and knock a red over for the freezer next week.
AR2213SC works for me with the 160 grainers. My 270 digests a lot of powder compared to some, a slightly oversized chamber I believe. If you have a chrony, work up half a grain at a time from 54g until you hit...
In 30-06 and 270 Win cases I've found Win and Norma cases to weigh about the same and have very similar capacities, with a grain or two more capacity than Rem brass.
Very little experience with Hornady.
Aus just another thought on the Accubond; they are a great bullet, accurate and they'll hold together. However...
In my experience they don't necessarily penetrate any further than a lot of standard cup and core bullets. They are after all, still a cup and core design.
I really think with your...
I used some of the 140 Accubonds but only on pigs. For that they were very good but a pig is not a sambar, and the thick scrub that the sambar inhabit makes as you say, quick put downs desirable.
The Accubond will definitely stay together better than an SST of any type. I would stay away from...
Gday AusNos, you've discovered the best shooting forum on the planet!
I've found that the Speer 150g Hot Cor is just about the best low cost, all round, deep penetrating and wide expanding bullet you can get for the 270. Shot a couple of pigs last week with them actually. Great for a cup and...
Guys I've recently been dabbling in some long range steel shooting and a little LR goat and varmint hunting with my 308.
Have a little RAR Compact in 223 that I wanted to try out further so I took a punt and ordered a cheap Sightron S1 SIH Tac 3-9x40 Mil Dot.
I was particularly interested in...
I've never felt that complete pass throughs were a deal breaker; probably part of my view on the X.
OTH I've always valued a wide wound channel, with enough Bullet weight to reach the far shoulder of the beast being hunted.
X Bullets and NPTs are really expensive here. Accubonds, Interbonds...
I'm here to tell you that - for the exorbitant cost - I reckon X Bullets are way overrated.
Heavy for calibre-ish Hot Cors and Interlocks are the everyman's best friend. Nosler BTs of the heavy variety are great too. But regrettably in my backyard they are quite expensive.
Accubonds - though...
