I have five rifles chambered to the .300 Wn. Mag. Four are Ruger #1s and the other a Winchester M70. I too wanted to go with a 200 gr. bullet and did the initial work using the 200 gr. Speer Hot Core. The good news is all five will shoot that bullet sub MOA well past what anyone will be shoot at...
I used H4831 for a while then switched to Winchester's now long gone WMR. It gives basiclly the same velouty and better accuracy in my .270 Rifle. It's also a winner in my .280 Rem. and .300 Win. Mag. I have no idea why it's a disaster in the 30-06 but even Winchester's load data showed it as...
Of the ones shown the following is close to results I get in three rifles with no apparent pressure related problems..
+04.0 96 47.84 2804 2619 54628 10712 100.0 1.131 !DANGEROUS LOAD-DO NOT USE!
My load is as follows.
48.5 RL17/48.5 gr./2847 FPS Brass is Winchester, Winchester WLR primer...
I've played with H4350 in the 30-06 some but I use Winchester brass and a Remington M700. I use a BDL and a Classic, both rifles having 22" barrels. The bullet though was the Hornady 180 gr. Spire point. I did work up to a hair over 2800 FPS with 58.0 gr. H4350. he BDL was made in 1978 and the...
Well I'll admint I somestrng prejudices against anythinfrom GM. It all stemed from the time I bougth a 1958 Impala convertibled, candy apple red. The garthest that hunk of junk ever got form the dealership was maybe three block when it scattered the tranny all over the pavement. The deal...
I got a dude quite angry with me when I compared Someone in the British Commonwealth of nations as a SUBJECT rather than a CITIZEN. The problem as I see it even here is people are growing more like sheep (subjects) to dot gov than as citizens with rights.
I think this is more prevalent in the...
"You guys are masochists!" Like hell we are. When it comes to masochism start with a Ruger #1 in .416 Rigby with Ruger's skimpy red excused of a recoil pad. The .404 Jeffery is a little bit better but the #1 in .375 H&H is actually fun to shoot. Yes, I have all three and until recently I even...
Obviously something is radically wrong here. Knowledge of the firearm, load data including powder charge, bullet brand and weight and primer would help a great deal.

I think ether the Speer or Hornady 250 gr. spitzer type bullets with work just fine on just about anything you might want to hunt. Personally I like the 225 gr. Barnes TSX for my main .35 Whelen. Six shots for six elk goes a long way toward approval. That bullet may be a bit too long for a .350...
I've always cleaned my guns after the end of a hunt or a day of range fun. My fun handgun load is a .38 Spl. using a 148 gr. Wadcutter. I can use it in my M60 K38 or M28 .357 mag all day long without getting tired or having a sore hand/wrist. Can't say that with my serious .357 mag. handloads...
Hell! California has done this for at least as long as I can remember. I did my first deer hunt on Labor Day weekend 1949. On that date and from way before probably my birth year (1938) that has been the rule. Shoot a spike or doe deer and you have committed a serious crime, I kid you not. They...
1 shot. Give the 165 gr. Hot Core a try. I run them at 2550 FPS from an 18.5" barrel Ruger 77RSI and have taken deer out to 250yards. The same load will hit 2610 FPS which is the same velocity as the Speer Nitrex ammo that sadly has been discontinued.
I haven't tried the 165 gr. Hot Core in my...
I only run my home cast bullets in my handguns and for cartridges like the .357 and .44 Magnums run a fairly stiff roll crimp. Unless your bullet has a cannelure to crimp on, you'd just about have to go with a taper crimp. I'm not sure just how tight one can make that type crimp. In either case...
I'm afraid I can't help you much regarding 200 gr. Accubonds in the 30-06. I do agree with the comment that they would most likely work in a .300 magnum of some sort. I have run 200 gr. Speer Hot Core in the .300 Win. Mag. and they drop elk nicely ay out yonder.
The only Accubond I've run...
" 54.5gr H4831sc
WLR Primers
Hornady Brass
Need to regroup, 2 shots hit paper at 1.5" but 3rd shot was errant.
2700fps"
Your comment leads to a little of confusion. Not sure if you had two close or two at 1.5" and shot three out in left field. Also, only one box of that bullet weight is IIRC...
I haven't tried the 165 gr. Partition on my 30-06 yet. I've been running the 165 gr. Accubond over 56.0 gr. W760, WLR primer and Winchester brass for a bit over 2800 FPS. The load has been sub MOA from the start. I've only taken one animal with the load, a cow elk. She went all of about 30 yards...
