As much as I think the Win 100 or Rem 7400 rifles are a good idea, I just am too
much a bolt action person. Found a really nice Win 100 in the holly grail 284 caliber. Super clean rifle, put some rounds through it and it shot well, but.....
Will ponder keeping over the winter, but not sure it...
I often carry a G27 with a 357 Sig barrel while in the mountains. The Sig brand 125gr V Crown are great bullets for the pistol. It has accounted for a few grouse off the motorcycles.
Thanks for the input. I passed, also have a Sako 280AI that is a shooter and a few of 75 and 85 Finnlights (6.5 Swede, 30-06 and 338 Fed). The 7mm mag doesn't really add anything for me.
Find myself settling more and more into the Swede and the '06
Local Cabela's has a Sako L61R in 7 Mag.
Nice rifle, has a textured synthetic stock with a Monte Carlo check rest and a Pachmyer recoil pad. Cabela's guys tried to say it was factory. Need no comments about the experts at Gun stores.
It also looks to be coated with a matte black Cerakote...
Trying to convince myself to apply for a Snake River bull tag this year and pack in a camp. Few miles of switchbacks going in. Biggest problem is getting an animal out without horses.
Seems as I read through various pasting while physically distancing myself, people talk about wanting "lightweight" rifles. As someone that hunts some very open country and hikes way more miles and hills than I sometimes want, I don't always worry about carrying the lightest rifle verses a...
I have a 338 Marlin Express lever gun.
I have been playing with 200gr Accubonds. I file the point flat. It takes about 0.3grs Off the weight.
Some guys on Marlin forum have been using these
Here is a link, but should work for the 35 also if you want to play...
I am looking forward to spring bear also. Been playing around with my Marlin 338 Marlin Express. Loading 250 gr RN and filed flat 200 gr Accubonds.
Both shoot well, but going to use the 250rn this spring.
Anyone shooting Retumbo in their 6.5-284? I see people posting on sites about it, but never found a listed powder range.
I have been using RL-19 per the Nosler data with good results, but never hurts to play around.
Thanks
Old post, but my input. I have had a pair of Zeiss 10x42 HD.
Pros: I really like the glass. Great warranty, although work on these is done in Germany and takes longer
Cons: when using a chest rig to carry them, the focal point changes after a few minutes of hiking. You have to re-focus each...
Had a Marlin 45-70 guide gun for years. Was a nice rifle, but it but was never quite right. Tried 2.5 X scout scope, tried 2-7 rifle scope, already had XS sights, but never was all
I wanted it to be .
Found a local deal on another guide gun and bought it. Used this rifle
as a base and...
Loading some 45-70 with Oregon Trail 350 & 405 cast bullets
Been using RL-7 (Guy's load of 40 gr and some hotter).
Lots of people reference using 25-26 gr of 2400. But I can't find published min and max powder charges for this powder. Anyone have a reference?
Hoping to come back this year. Wanting a snowy camp.
First time I went, cold (15) and snowy. Lots of deer.
Last time I came several years ago, I was hiking it a long sleeve shirt.
You I surfed YouTube last night, ordered an extractor from Midway.
The bolt face is based upon a 223.
I am impressed with the 6x45. Very mild recoil, 70 gr bullets at 3050 FPS.
Will take to central Oregon next month and chase coyotes.
