I have also seen where you attach a strap around a tree high up, to the animal, and with a ramp on your tailgate, back up and the animal will load up the ramp into the bed of your vehicle. Did this to load a bison back in the early 90s. Worked pretty slick. Have also done it with a moose.
Some more good points given!
Just a note, that while some animals are "edge" lovers, others are not, such as the smaller game that you are after. It is important to know not only about the targeted species, but also of the others that make this habitat their home, as you will disturb them as...
Your rifle's head space might be off a bit.
I had a similar issue with mine when first built. Was always a bit stiff to open after firing factory or handloaded ammo., but not excessive that it required too much force to open. Just stiffer than my other rifles.
One day, it actually fired while...
As mentioned, why do you need to pass through this type of brush?
If you must, find game trails to use as the animals will follow the easiest path through the brush to make it easier, quicker and quieter. Just as you are trying to do. Or as mentioned, find other paths around this type of brush...
You might also want to look at the Vihtavouri 500 series powders for a little extra punch over the 100 series powders.
MagPro is another powder that shows great potential in the 6.5 PRC with the 140 gr AccuBonds.
Nothing yet...
My 250AI is the same case, but using a 1:10 twist barrel. Hope to get 3200 fps with the 110 gr AB with Re-26.
I am considering the 25 Creedmoor too. May rebarrel my LH Browning X Bolt All Weather next year. Or consider the Proof Research Elevation 2.0 as it is available in left...
Well, I finally got my Nosler 25 Creedmoor brass. Cost was $97 CDN/bag of 50.
Been doing more research on this cartridge.
Looks like a 7.5 twist will be needed for the 125-130 gr bullets and 1:7 for the heavier bullets (133 to 138 gr). Hoping Nosler makes something in the 125-130 gr class for...
An update on the new-to-me LH X Bolt All Weather on 308 Win.
I did pick up a box of the Nosler 165 gr AccuBond ammo. It produced a 3 shot group of 1.240" at 100 yards, at 2789 fps.
I shot the Federal 175 gr terminal Ascent ammo again, and produced a group of 0.792" at 2561 fps, with an ES of...
I agree with the 129 or 130 gr recommendation; whichever your rifle prefers.
The higher BC and SD will allow for greater retained velocity and energy at longer distances for better penetration and expansion for enhanced on-game performance than the lighter weights.
I have gone this route myself...
I would say load a 100 rounds of that load, practice enough to verify the drops out to your comfortable limit range of 400, and go hunting! 😎
That will still leave you some powder for more loads once this 100 count runs low.
Hopefully by then we'll be seeing more Re-26 available!
Yes, a load as accurate as that is hard not to use!
I know that I still want to try the TGKs, as I have been very happy with the accuracy and performance of the SGKs in various calibers and cartridges over the years.
Yes, the ABLR can be difficult to get to shoot well in some rifles...this is...
I am looking forward to taking game with my 6.5 PRC this fall. (LH Browning X Bolt Hunter)
While it will produce 0.762" groups at 100 yards with the Hornady 143 gr ELD-X ammunition, it is a little slow at 2837 fps from my 24" Wilson carbon fibre barrel, vs the 2960 fps that Hornady specs that...
