I think the rifle is a sleeper. I had 2 other guys at work order one with me and they all shoot.
I’m going to replace the scope. I have a couple on the side and was waiting to see if I could pick up 2 other rifles if I can. Then I would straighten out the scopes.
You guys are a bad influence...
I got a chance to shoot the REM SPS 308 with the 20” barrel during the week. I picked up the rifle for a beater due to the price I could get it for and put an old cheap scope on it. I broke the barrel in back in Sept last year but haven’t been able to get to the range for test loads.
Basically...
Thanks. Its a 300 WM. I was looking for a while and then ordered one from Stocky's. It took a bit, but it was worth it. It has the aluminum block in it and I wasn't sure if i was going to have to bed it. I thought i would shoot it first and see. I had just sanded the pressure pads out and a...
Finally got to the range and got a chance to shoot the 700 BDL with the Alaskan II stock that I picked up for it. I only brought a box of reloads that I knew I had shot before that was pretty good. I just wanted to check that there were no issues with the stock and see how it shot. I used RL22...
For Bullseye shooting, guys used around 3.6-3.8 grs of bullseye with 200 grain SWC.
I checked an old Lyman book and the starting load with 185's is 3.5 grs with bullseye.
If you are going to shoot the light loads you may want to go to a lighter recoil spring.
For most of my shooting with the...
Picked up an Elite 4200 3 x 9 for $ 179 last weekend. One of the big stores had them on sale for 199, but if you used their charge card on the purchase they gave you 20 more off. I checked it out in the yard watching the deer cut through as it got dark and it was pretty good. Thought it was a...
5000 arrived today from TnT reloading from somewhere in Pennsylvania
I've been buying my reloading supplies from Tony at T&T for 20 years now.
Haven't been there in while but i have a list. He is just north of Easton PA.
He moves some product. Prices are usually good.
If you are going to load to carry, don't. You don't need your life or anothers in question if the gun go's click instead of bang. Also if you do shoot someone, they are going to eat you up in court.
Load to practice, carry factory.
I would not load to try to get +p to practice. The pressures...
The best is subjective. All the new bullets or ammo by the big companies are good. They have improved alot over the past several years. Most shootings happen under 7 yards. Find what you can handle and still get your hits.
If i carry my 9mm, it has 124 +p XTP's
If you are going to start shooting, start saving for a Dillon progressive. When I first started to shoot matches, I was loading for 3 of us on a single stage. All I was doing was working and reloading. Eventually, we all got Dillon 550's. Now have 2, one for large primers and one for small. It...
For the 124 XTP's try 1.085 for OL.
I used to use 4.8 grs of W231 with 124 FMJ @ 1.120 OL.
There are newer powders out now i would use.
Check Ramshots site for their loads.
I'm using 60.5 RL22 with the 180 Partitions in my BDL 22" @ 2640 fps.
For info, the Federal High Enegery 180 PT was at 2772 fps. I stayed with RL22 for years but now waiting for the weather to break to try some of the other powders to see what i get.
I have 2 Knights, 50 and the 54. Both shoot very well, they are not the dics though. I used those SST the last 2 years in the 50 and they shoot. First deer 80 yards down hill though brush.
Another buck this year. I think you will be happy with both. Good luck.
I just restocked my 700 with the BC Alaskian II. Seems pretty good. Its going to be a while till i get to shoot with all this snow here. I might try the Bobby Hart with one of my other rifles. They both look pretty good.
I just picked up a set of the Hornady dies a couple of weeks ago at Cabelas. I had an old set of RCBS for the 308, but after doing a couple of test rounds i didn't like them.
The seating die does look pretty good but haven't used them yet. They at the time had an offer for 100 free bullets with...
