Update:
Based on Friday's input I loaded up 6 more rounds for today, and hopefully more I'll load at the range.
All rounds are 7 Mashburn, Retumbo, 175 Partition, CCI250 primer, Winchester brass.
I loaded 71.3 grains to 72.3 grains Retumbo in 0.2 grain increments. Looks like this:
71.3
71.5...
Just my opinion, I've read lots of info over the years about how reading primers isn't a reliable method of determining pressure. Different types or lots of primers, different firing pins, etc. As a result I pretty much ignore the primers now. My first "reliable" sign of pressure is high...
First trip to the range, only 6 shots fired. I knew it would be quick, just identifying safe parameters to start working!
When I got home also measured the throat length with sharpie method. 3.521 OAL to lands. Magazine is 3.70 so no limitation there.

No QL here (I actually have the program but no Windows platform to run it on).
But the 7-300 Norma would be a cool thing!
Edit: not that there’s anything wrong with the 300 Norma Mag either.

Took me a couple days to find it (the original post was corrupted or something).

Spent some time today thinking about starting points for the 160s and 175s. I have some history with 160s (and mostly pressure signs), but none with the Mashburn and 175s. I also made a spreadsheet (which I will continue through load development for this rifle) so I could look at the info all...
I don’t have it in my possession until (scheduled) tomorrow.
Here’s a pic the gunsmith, Kevin Weaver, sent:
I have done a terrible job keeping detailed notes. I anticipate starting with Retumbo and either 160 ABs or 175 PTs. I have one notecard detailing 160s with Retumbo.
I will be...
And I forgot to mention, those groups are very acceptable for hunting muleys and elk! You’ll have no problems because of the group size.

I’ve had much better luck getting 155s, 165s, and 200s to shoot out of my 30-06s than the 180s. That’s been my experience with 4 different 30-06 barrels.
The best results I had with 180s was with Ramshot Hunter, but the results in Louisiana heat and Kansas winter were different enough that I...
Scotty mentioned, could be parallax.
Could be the shot felt good but wasn’t quite there.
Could be the scope changes point of aim at different magnification settings. There’s one particular scope I have that I suspect is doing this so I only shoot on one magnification setting.
Let us know...
Gents,
Ultimate question: Do you like Custom Competitions or RDFs?
I've read about half of Glen Zediker's Top-Grade Ammo now. I've been reloading for several years, read several books/reloading manuals/etc. on the topic. If I could suggest a couple very useful it would be the Berger manual...
I had some really great accuracy and velocity with Hunter and CCI250s. I think I remember a max around 60 grains in the book but I got 2800 FPS with 58 grains and stopped.
I need to play with it some more, I have a pile of 180 PTs to mess with!

Scotty already covered the gauge. I don’t even measure OAL any more (unless trying to determine something like magazine length), just Cartridge Base to Ogive (CBTO).
As for your dies question, the best three are the Wilson inline seater with micrometer top, the Redding Competition and the...
I was talking to an older rancher in Wyo who said antelope were best eating when you took them in June. Sure different from 50 years ago!
June is fawning season.
