Great thread. I did the intense cleaning barrel break-in my last couple rifles and I would like to avoid doing that again. Vince2's routine sounds pretty reasonable to me, but would love to hear everyone else's general cleaning routine - aside from any barrel break in?
I hear you, you have to make due with what you have. 19 was more accurate for me in lighter bullets, but 17 was faster, if I I recall. I don't think I tried 19 in the 180s though but 17 is my go to.
What do you think of the bond strike, pretty similar to an accubond?
Sorry, a hard question to ask. I'm asking if, given my specs if I could come anywhere near the lands and if the bullet would be seated too deeply and intrude into the powder too much. I guess I can figure out the last part given the bullet length, but not the first part without knowing "length...
Hey all, I have a SAKO A7 300 WSM. Longest COAL length I think I can get away with is about 2.997 due to the short magazine. I measure the distance to my lands at 2.385. So of the SAAMI spec, I calculate my freebore is = .2574. I found a good load with ELDX's in another rifle .02-.03 off of...
Thanks DrMike! Would 4064 be your choice then? I don't see it on the other list. I do have some MRP though, would that be a good one? I was thinking MRP/RL22, retumbo, rl26.
Here's a fun challenge if anyone is bored - can quick-load provide a few good loads for a 25/284 with a Berger 133 or the new 134 ELD-M? I have the 25-06 load data from Berger and am interested in comparing. I just emailed Hornady as well.
My least favorite used to be weighing powder until I got a chargemaster. That's still probably the slowest step. I'd probably say trimming or cleaning lube off after resizing.
I used to shoot them too. Grouped right with but did not perform as well as the ABs, had a few incidents of them kind of grenading on impact. Switched to Accubonds and haven't looked back (until I run out)
I have the 7mm bug and am dreaming of some sort of faster twist rifle in something like - 7 SAUM, 7PRC, even 7 rem mag. I saw the opposite question recently - lighter bullets in a 7PRC. But I'm wondering what opinions are on the best heavier .284 bullet would be, for elk sized game, etc...
I'm with you, but this is my kids first rifle he's not going to be happy sending 250grs downrange. I like the sound of a 140 A Frame. I'm a 30 cal guy myself but the kids 7mm08 might be my gateway into the 7mms!
Thanks DrMike. I've seen a few suggestion to drop down to a 120 TTSX for the mono to get the speed up. I was thinking 150 ELDX would be a good practice round for the price, but it might be a decent hunting choice as well.
