I never had much interest in buying a .223 until the rimfire scare. Once quality CCI 22lr was going for 13 cents a round and Shooters Pro Shop was selling their varmint and custom comp. bullets for the same price or less I scooped one up. Free 223/556 brass is everywhere.
I'm glad this thread was started, as there isn't much " how to" to be had with QuickLoad. The instructions seemed to explain what all the bells and whistles do, but didn't explain how and why you should use those functions, or how to apply the info to what youre doing. I still don't understand...
I joined a club a month ago that is very similar. It is definitely humbling when you sit down with your hunting rifle and sand bags next to a guy that's prolly got 6k in his rig, and he asks you what your shooting!
I asked what equipment it would take to get competitive and was told a used...
There is no escape! I've had my copy for about a year now and Im still addicted. I just spent an hour on it last night to figure out what I should load up next in my 7mmRM with what I have on hand. I ended up basing my decision on what had the highest case fill %, lowest chamber pressure, and...
Just checking to see if anyone knows where I can buy a plain Jane synthetic stock to fit a Savage 114 in 7mm RM. Its a detachable magazine. I'm not after anything custom, just want something oem or relatively cheap to put on it when the weather is bad and I don't want to quit hunting. I was...
The 69 gr nosler custom comp shoots great from my 1-9 twist Rem. 700. And it sure puts big holes in woodchucks at impact speeds around 2400fps. The 55 Blitzking shoots great too, but I just put it together so I haven't tried it on anything but paper yet. Almost every load I've tried with h322...
I just bought my first 444, and shot it last week. Its a 6.5lb single shot before mounting a scope. Its also the first time I've had a scope shift on me. Plenty of recoil with Hornady 265 Superformance (chrono'd right at the advertised 2400 fps.) The best solution for scope shift i read was...
So I'm thinking about trying a new deer/blackbear load in my 375 Ruger Alaskan Brush Hunter. I've got them on hand already, and I was actually thinking about downloading them to mimic a 375 Winchester. Ranges would be no further than 200 yards. Sounds like a mild mannered thumper in a...
I think Retumbo is a better powder for the combo you listed. I've worked up 115 partitions to over 3200 FPS without problems in a 24" barrel. Accuracy wasn't there, but it was predicted safe by QL and Nosler if I remember correctly.
I do not. But I also am ONLY trying to reach MOA. Here's a test.... Next time youre at the range, when you have a "flier", Mark it with a sharpy or something and weigh the empty case against the others. If you have a digital scale, weigh a handful of Remington bullets from the same box and...
When my loads are "slow" there are a few things that are usually to blame.. Temperature below standard, H2O capacity of the brass above standard, and seating depth longer than the recipe calls for. Those three things can all make for large differences in velocity.
To answer your question more specifically, a guy I work with was looking at a jig that you use with a plain old drill press to finish the last 20% of the machining. Sounds like the final quality depends on the user a bit? I like to make stuff myself when possible, but I don't personally have...
I've seen these, and while it does seem interesting, I think they're a gimmick playing on people's fears. If someone knocks on your door and says "our records show you have firearms in your home with these serial numbers, and we'd like to come in and have a look". Your answer should be...
I use the RCBS swager, and have not had any problems in the 2-300 pieces of LC brass I've done. Just a one simple down-up on a single press, and a little extra pressure on the up stroke to pop the brass loose from the swaging nipple. Easy peasy
Thanks for the report. I might get to see how they work on a feral cat before too long. I've got one that setup shop here on my farm about a week ago. Should be plenty of thump for that job!
