42 grains of H4350 has been my go to in the 243 with the 95 nbt and the 95 hornady sst. For what it is worth, maybe the flat base sst will shoot better, most usually do but don’t have the higher bc for obvious reasons, not that it makes too much difference inside 300. Both of those bullets will...
Just wondering if your supplies in the States has improved? Really skinny on the ground here in Australia and am hoping we get some more soon and using you guys as a lead indicator.
You could walk into the bush with any of those loads be completely confident. I look forward to seeing your chrono results. Those tikkas certainly shoot.
I have settled on varget in mine with 140 class bullets. I have tried sierra game kings, Nosler BT’s, hornady sst’s and the interlock boat tail. With 42.5 grains all shot within an inch but the standout in terms of accuracy is the old interlock, go figure. Speed with those loads tends to be...
Varner was our go to, but we also used benchmark from memory. Seems the 223 is more popular here in Australia than the 22.250 which is weird given how capable the latter is.
Hi all,
I am about to embark on the 300RUM journey, once I have a set of dies. Is there anything unique about this cartridge that I need to be aware of? I was planning on using 200 grain Accubonds or 200 grain Barnes LRX. Retumbo looks like a pretty handy powder.
I am really looking forward to...
And yet sometimes I’ll restock out of fear of even higher price escalation…adding to the problem I guess. Thankfully our locally produced powders for rifle are still available though expensive compared to what they were pre COVID, are still cheaper than buying factory. I don’t think too many...
We share similar hobbies Frank. Just coming out of our Summer pelagic season for Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Mackeral, Tuna and Marlin and into our winter species.
It seems like sometimes they can legislate gun control or achieve the same thing through market mechanisms...that would be the cynic in me though ;)
I know we talk a fair amount about component availability and prices, but I was literally astonished when the local gunshop advertised the availability of alliant powder, and then really pissed off at the price. I can buy a brand new rifle for that price. Absolute madness.
I load 45 in my 260 with that bullet. My son’s rifle for the Swede is a tikka so should handle the pressures just fine. Thanks for the reminder though.
Gee Mike that is a lot quicker than the 4831 (2213) my son is running now. Might have to have a look at that and see how it shoots. The 2213 has him just over 2,700fps and it feels like it should be doing more. It has however very accurate with that powder. Thanks for the QL 👍
Just wondering if anyone is using H4350 with 129sst bullets or the like? Any thoughts on what QL would look like running modern pressures in a modern rifle would look like. 22 inch barrel.
