I didn't take pics but will next time (geesh - back to being a newbie after almost 4 years away from the range or hunting)
Using Son's Garmin Xero. I wish I could afford one of these myself but son will let me use his so :)
Yesterday's Range Time (Testing for Max Load Powder Charge Only)
I have...
Got to the range yesterday and realized I did not have my range protection earmuffs but only had ear plugs.
After shooting a number of round with the 338 Win Mag (muzzle break), 30-06, and 7mm 08, I did not realize my hearing was affected till I got into the truck and called home to advise I was...
Super nice and very informative reply JimBire
I have had QL for over 9 years and did not now how you and Dr MIke and others used it other than populate just the default Screen!
This helped me a lot for future riel loads as well
Thank you!!
I have a Weatherby 7mm 08 S2 24" barrel
I am using IMR 4350
I have QL but a lil confused on the powder charge options
Even at 48 grains the Pressure is listed at only 52269 but the Filling/L.R. is at 106.3
Can a Filling/L.R. over 100% be safe?
Honestly just looking for target shooting loads...
Thanks DrMike
12 years ago when first starting out hand loading. I started at minimum but ended up locking my bolt. I learned quickly. Again I thought I missed somethings being away for a while. Super thanks
Thanks all.. Yeah I better stick with a one load one rifle. I was trying to get "fancy".
Unfortunately I am here in Colorado and hunting is always a crap shoot.
9 Days at best depending which season
Deer and Elk are same season
You choose your unit to hunt in 6 months before the hunt season...
Super Excellent JimBires and JD338.
Your thoughts are what mine were but I saw a number of peeps saying opposite and since I have been away for a while I was wondering if I missed something!
Thanks guys!
I use QuickLoad as well as other bullet manufacturers for "suggested" powder charge weights.
In the past I have always started at a estimated minimum powder charge weight and work work my way up by .3 or .5 grs. till I perceive pressure issues either on the case or on the bolt
After reading...
Might be a silly question so please excuse my ignorance on this.
I am reloading for a friend that has a 7mm 08. This fall we will be hunting for both Elk and Mule Buck.
The reasoning for below is because of budget constraints and bullets I have on hand without purchasing more bullets.
I want to...
Great news!
I sent the die to Lee 10 calendar days with two Nosler cases that did not fit (I have 45 of them :) )
Got the new collet die today!! Ya'll saved me around $70+ for a new bag of 338 Win Mag cases. I almost threw out the Nosler cases even with only first firing or 1 reload. (The...
Super Excellent. Now I feel very confident on that discernment regarding the "cam over" approach. There is one "YouTube" reloader that is suggesting "cam over" (years ago but video is still out there) but I have stuck with what Lee Precision states.
I really feel I just got the correct and...
RL338, I have spoken to Lee Precision techs at least 3 times in the last 15 years regarding the collet dies and how much pressure should one use with the dies. I have received some different answers each time, so I just pull the RCBS rocker arm down with some good pressure, turn the case 1/4...
Yipee!
Got off the phone with Lee Precision Engineer and advised my die is probably close to 12-13 years old or maybe older. I explained the situation to the engineer (Chris) and he definitely agrees my collet die is out of spec. He did say that sometimes, specs over the years if a reasonable...
I said I was going to call the Lee the other day but stayed with this forum, but I will give them a call tomorrow and get the scoop on my neck sizer.
Thanks RL338
Um, I am pretty sure it is not machined out at all. Straight direct purchase from Lee Precision about 7 years or so ago.
If you have any Nosler 338 brass, what are your measurements at the belt?
At this time, I do not know till I go back out to the range which might be 3 weeks+. I have been away from hunting and shooting due to some illness so now just getting back into it. If you are still interested, I will let you know right after I come back from the range.
530 yds!
I am not sure...
