The only 30-06 I owned was a Sako Finnbear. That was probably 40 years ago. I owned it for two seasons. Last one I had. I still miss that gun. I have a few 30 cal but not in a 30-06. Don't know why......
Yea that's funny. I have more cameras being messed with by bears every year. Then I get clos ups of eyes - nose - ears..... They haven't tore one off the tree yet.
Fun stuff.

The turkeys in the yard were making a racket Sunday. Not so much on Saturday. I also think they are moving up in elevation. I'm on a canyon edge at 2600' . Up till last week it be unusual to not see 50 -100 turkeys driving up or down the canyon. Last couple days not so much.
Spent the last two years with shooting / hunting on the back burner. My wife and I purchased raw property and building it into a home. About an hour out of town in Idaho with just a few years to work yet.
My son purchased 10 acres right next to me. Our nearest neighbors is 1 mile marker back...
I picked up a early '70s vintage 700 BDL in a 270W back in the mid '90s. It appeared new. All blueing on bolt slides. The barrel looked clear. I put it in a syn stock. Put a VXII 3x9-40 on it.
Bore sighted it and took a shot at 100 yds. Using Federal Premium 130 Barnes ( I think..), found...
WOW that brings back memories. Grew up in northern Minnesota back in the 60s - 70s. First time I could leave the farm yard and go with my grandpa hunting was in '72. He still carried a Sav 99 but my uncles and cousins all carried the Rem pump and autos - 30-06 of course. I think one uncle...
That is such a good looking rifle. Brings back memories of the days when "all" rifles were wood. I remember in those days I sanded and refinished a handfull of stocks to bring out the beauty of walnut and maple. Kinda makes me a little nostalgic of the times.
That's the way to do it ! Right in back yard! Where I'm living in Idaho I've only packed out bulls in back country hunts. All the cows we shoot (as I say "in the back yard"), we can take out whole or in half on a wheeler. Sometimes with a tractor ! Cow elk has been our "red meat" for a few...
When my eyes were younger I used VX II as I could afford it I used VX III. Now my eyes are not what they used to be, I've been buying Swaro, Zeiss and Razors.
