I tried out some 130 ttsx’s I’m working on but I messed up my target and could not get any accurate results from it.
I did get some impressive speeds from my 20” barrel though.
Ramshot TAC powder
At the upper end toward max I was getting an average of 3202 fps. The last shot of this load...
As I’ve posted above I feel I have a good recipe for my handloads, which is able to reach out a bit and pretty accurate for a peep sighted 30-30.
My 94 is a 20” barreled carbine and at the range the other day I was able to get an average of 2360 out of these loads.
Hornady states that they get...
That was a great post!
I grew up watching Saturday morning westerns Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett on tv.
We often had Argosy, Field and Stream, and Guns and Ammo magazines around the house although my parents never subscribed to them. To tell the truth I don’t remember how we had them, but we...
The first rifle I ever held, and the first rifle I ever shot was my Father’s 336 in 35 Rem.
Classic deer rifle!
My Brother has that rifle now.
The “close range woods” in your picture look just like the areas I love to hunt too!
CVA Optima V2 .50 cal. 300 grain Harvester PT gold bullet over 110 grains by volume Blackhorn 209.
I’m sure I’ve told this here before, but I came late to the hunting game.
I was 53 when I took my first deer, a Doe.
A bunch of us had been driving deer all morning, and being new I volunteered to...
My load is 51.5 grains.
Not sure the speed, as I didn’t have a chrono at the time but it has given me 3/4” groups at 100 yards and I’ve taken a nice buck at 267 ranged with it.
Mine sits in the safe mostly now and to be honest I haven’t shot it in probably two or three years.
I just like...

It’s all about understanding how the stamp lines up on the design.
Being consistent with the placement of the stamp to the already allied stamps is key - easier to show than tell….
I guess I’m a little different than most in that I shoot 150 grain Accubonds from my 30-06.
When I first bought it, I picked up a box each of Remington core-loks in 165 grain and 150 grain and my rifle (Remington 700) seemed to like the 150s better.
So when I started handloading I researched...
I believe we live for the experience, and also that we can’t take money with us as we move on.
Our addictions have led us here and it is being retired, with money not wasted, but experience s had!
Just finished this up for someone going on a moose hunt this September.
His last day of work is today as he is retiring
So this was an appropriate gift I believe
I wish I had a way with words such as you do!
I saw an article this morning. One of the many “which is the best caliber/cartridge for deer hunting”, and I thought about the saying that goes something like, “beware the man with only one gun”.
I, personally, have only four rifles, an inline...
The deer in my avatar was shot with a 300 grains .50 cal muzzleloader bullet over 110 grains volume blackhorn 209, at approximately 130 yds if I remember correctly.
It tore its heart in two and destroyed its right front leg upon exit.
It ran 250 yards into the swamp before it succumbed to its...
I haven’t been to the range with it yet. I’ve been very busy lately in my shop and just haven’t had time.
Soon however!
It will go on my 308 win.
I have a compact model which is just about an inch or so longer than my model 94.
