I have a 2.5-10x40 Elite on a Remington 700 300SAUM, and it is a wonderful match. My only complaint is the eye relief at the highest power setting, a little short. It has been so consistent, and the rifle is a real shooter, that I am very hesitant to make a change.
I posted a review quite some...
Any more, with all the choices available, and very few being poor, the dart idea is probably the most logical at this point. The 376 Steyr definitely fits into the "cool factor."
Here is one picture. I don't have the patients to load the others. For some reason between my email, phone, computer and photobucket, somebody doesn't like what I have to say.
Fotis, you did it right. Always shoot the rifle first! Get the barrel fouled, clean, and fouled again before coming to any conclusions. I have seen on many occasions where someone took a new rifle, free floated the barrel and scrubbed the bore raw, shot it for the first time, and wondered what...
If your M70 has a 2-piece bottom metal, you might want to double check tighness of the action screws. Sometimes the front one can get too tight and "interfere" with the others. I like the rear one TIGHT, then snug the front and center.
Or, the 35 Sambar, which is basically a .358 WSM! The 350 Rem Mag as mentioned before is a good one too.
If I were looking at or looking to build a 20" short mag, non wildcat, it would be the 300WSM. The 300SAUM, which I like even better, wouldn't bother me since I have a good supply of brass...
You can also do a search for post by user Big Squeeze who did some extensive work with a Ruger Frontier that has a short 16.5" barrel, if I recall correctly. He listed some chrono data inhis posts.
One question about your action, is it designed to handle a magnum width cartridge? If the feed rails need to be opened up, then you might as well go with a 30-284 or just stick with the 308.
As far as powders go, it is a myth that faster powders perform better in shorter barrels. What ever...
I will get a picture up as soon as I can.
This was shot out of a 7 Rem Mag using factory Federal Premium ammo. My friend's son drew a youth tag and missed a buck with his 270, so he had to use dad's 7 mag that has counted for numerous deer and elk.
The shot was 416 yard, slightly down hill...
I love the 280 Remington! My first was a Browning A-Bolt composite stalker, 22" barrel and a Timney trigger spring kit. The only manual I had at the time was Speer #13? The 145gr BTSP with a book max load of IMR4831 gave me exactly what the manual said it would, 2950fps. My step-son shot a...
I'm wondering if this particular lot of bullets had bonding issues? There were some early reports if this in the .338" version, but that was years ago, before the 130gr was evan available I believe. At any rate, I'll shoot up what I have and move on to the E-tip for this rifle.
I agree, the 140gr AB seems to be much more stout than the 130gr. I posted my results in the Product Reviews section of the forum. Even on a broadside shot on deer, it did pass through.
I have had better results with the NBT, Gameking and Hornady Interlock as far as killing efficiency and...
My experience with the 130gr .277" AccuBond is that they do not, or at least did not, penetrate well at all. Had any of my shots been a quartering away angle, I'm not sure the bullet would have reached the vitals.
They did dispatch the deer and antelope quite handily, but no way did I see the...
So true, Mike! One day at the range, a guy was overlooking me shooting through my chrony. He asked, "howz it shootin'?" I replied, "take a peek through the spotting scope and judge for yourself." He did, and saw 3 groups on the target, all under .75." He then asked a out my load. I was...
It is frustrating, but not necessarily gouging. If I was the only resource for a particular item, I'd price it accordingly. If a patron didn't like my price, I'd politely say, "go find a better price elsewhere."
The government does its best to control costs to the consumer (translated to read...
AccuBonds have certainly been more accurate for me. See my post in product reviews regarding game I have taken with the Accubond over the recent years.
If you ever get tired of that H1000 load, or can't find it, Retumbo has been very popular with a group in Ft McMurray AB, CN that has been shooting the 6.5 SAUM since the SAUM was first introduced.
Nice shooting! Remington should have released the 6.5 SAUM instead of hanging onto the 6.5 Rem...
There's always reports out there of "bullet failures" from any and all manufactures. This is no such report. I am not partial to any brand in particular, for I have loaded, shot, hunted and taken game with just about all brands over the years. I like bullets that work and that shoot well...
