It's been made very clear that the M48 is not a Vanguard, nor are the parts interchangeable. Why don't we take the energy of this topic and move it to the Wichester M70, the one and only. Wait, there's the Pre-64, Pre-war Pre-64, push-feed, Black Shadow, Classic, and Controlled Round Push Feed...
RL19 was off the shelves 10-12 years ago due to huge lot to lot variances. It's not dangerous, but can be if you were duplicating a powder charge of a slow lot with a fast lot. I'm sure it will work fine but might not be repeatable with a new can.
SJB,
I understand the occasional turd product, but I expected either AT&T or Apple to be a little more proactive and have better policies in place for such situations as mine.
On a side note, my phone did show the 4G symbol in the upper-left corner for the first time in over a week, and...
I' tried to make it short and sweet. This phone has been a pain since day one (November 2012) and has never operated as expected. The SIM card was replaced in December which made the device operate at a pace more closely related to other smart devices. Recently, my service was either very...
Magpro is my powder of choice for the 270WSM regardless of bullet. If (when) I get specific on finite details on a given load, RL-19 is my choice for 130gr, Magpro or RL22 for 140gr, and Retumbo for 150gr bullets.
I don't think there is a poor choice from the 4350's and slower for the 270WSM...
4350 is magic with 100gr bullets. 4831 is never a poor choice in the 25-06, but 7828ssc, RL22 and Retumbo are the powders for 119-120gr bullets. I don't suspect you will have any trouble finding an accurate load, for the 25-06 acts like most other 30-06 based cartridges when it comes to load...
The only negative, if it is one, is that the CZ/MRC action is cast and not forged, much like the M77. That wouldn't stop me in the least.
The feeding issues with the M70 is usually from a burr on the extractor that prevents the case from slipping by freely. I have had zero issues with the...
I wish companies would stop copying the Accu-Trigger. Why take up a bunch of creep just to get to the trigger is my issue. I just haven't been able to warm up to it.
I knew a few shooters who were very impressed with the 6.5 SAUM. It seemed to be a better fit for a short action and not quite as overbore as the WSM would be.
Taking into consideration the cost of dies, time to fireform brass, and always using experimental load data associated with a...
Great job! I love hearing about pig hunts, for here in Oregon, we aren't really cursed with an established population one can confidently pursue.
She unleashed the Storm, no doubt! Between the 120gr NBT and 120gr TTSX, one could quite possibly possess the ideal all-around set-up for the...
I will trim new brass just to square up the mouth. As Paul B. noted, if a case is too long it could lead to a dangerous situation. Brass that is trimmed way too short poses little safety risk but could lead to advanced/unnecessary throat erosion. I keep a trimmed case and a dummy round for...
The 280 is probably my all-time favorite cartridge. For me, IMR4831 was top choice for 140-150gr bullets. IMR7828ssc was fantastic with 160gr bullets, and many handloaders swear by RL22 in the 280. I strongly suggest you give 7828 and RL22 a try next.
Enjoy that 280, for I don't think you...
I'm headed to the gun shop this morning to "check it out" one more time. I'll keep you in mind, Kurt, if it gets to that point. They also have a Vanguard S2 25-06 with an Elite 3-9x40 for $450. My girlfriend's son needs a deer rifle, and that would be a great start!
A bit of a high jack here, but a local shop has a very nice 450 Marlin, ported, non-Remlin and like new. It' a consignment with an asking price of $450, no sales tax in Oregon. I'm tempted to make an offer, but I'm not sure if I like the ported barrel. The brass issue isn't a biggie to me...
I have used Wipe-Out for years and have no negative issues with it. Like Woods mentioned, one can get a barrel too clean to shoot well. All my rifles prefer some fouling in the barrel to shoot with any consistency. When I use Wipe-Out, it's either because I'm selling a rifle, or my load...
I think there are too many assumptions when it comes to barrel break-in practices. For custom barrels, I would do what the barrel maker recommends. For factory barrels, I start with min-charge loads to sight in and work up from there, watching for any signs of accuracy trends. Once I see a...
That is the first bullet I use when working up a load for a new .257 caliber rifle. My step-son's 25-06 has taken several deer and one black bear with the 115gr NBT, and the results were very similar. He hasn't needed a follow up shot yet.
Even though that bullet didn't exit, it did its job...
