I use Benchmark in the 223 with superb results. I went with the 50gr bullets for the extra velocity and acrobatics provided by such unfortunate squirrels.
I had a 25-06 that just hated the 85gr NBT. Once I went to the 75gr V-max all groups closed up considerably, not as fast as 3700fps though. My M7 .243 absolutely refuses to shoot 100gr bullets of any make, regardless of powder used. I dropped to the 70gr TNT for grins. It shot great, so that...
Me too! Just don't show the exit hole otherwise the next Presidential debate will be about handguns.
That Classic looks as though nobody has shot it yet, very nice!
If H4350 doesn't work then I'd look at RL19. I haven't found the 243 to be too picky about powders. I had one Savage that refused to shoot 100gr bullets though.
The only time I dislike the straight eyepiece is when in the field, sitting on the ground or lying down, while glassing across canyons and steep hillsides. Most of the time I'm on a steep slope, so a straight eyepiece makes my neck hurt. It's like looking up at the ceiling all day with your...
I don't think that 42k psi is a true working maximum pressure for that cartridge, is it? The velocities in the 52-55k psi range look more indicative of the cartridge's capabilities.
It should do real well in the 7-08 and is a favorite of mine in the 300WSM. Never loaded the 257AI, but I imagine it should be worth a try. I like RL15 in the 300 Savage and RL19 in the 338 WM. Let us know how your loads turn out, even if they aren't up to expectations.
We put too much into the merits of a cartridge, like the 30-06. We aren't talking about technology or a situation where reliability plays a role, like in vehicles, etc. Just because the 30-06 came into play before the 300WSM (or fill in the blank with any other cartridge), and has taken more...
Too many other variables out there for me to worry about besides temperature sensitivity. One thing I have become more aware of over the years is my reluctance to fall for marketing hype or become branded. If I find myself looking to buy something just because of an advertisement or name...
I'm not sure it's a true need, but the 444 would be a wonderful stablemate to your 45-70's. Speaking of which, why were you looking for a 45-70 when you had two already? I can answer that...because you NEED another
Okay, I'll jump in with what comes to mind first.
Pistols:
25 ACP
357 SIG
357 Maximum
45 GAP
41 Mag
44 Special
5.56 x whatever?
Rifles:
30-30 without a doubt
22 Hornet
any ultra mag
50 BMG
I consider the 300 SAUM somewhat of an oddball due to the limited time frame which rifles where chambered. My M700 BDL SS has become a favorite and has a bit of "cool" factor being a SAUM.
A true classic that might be considered an oddball to younger shooters is the 300 Savage. I absolutely...
I believe Norman Thomas was the last of the "great" American Socialist party candidates. He was known for stating that the party no longer needs membership, for the Democratic party under the term "liberalism" will hold all values of the socialist party and will carry their platform.
Tell him congratulations! For those who don't know, blacktails out here are very difficult to find during daylight hours. Even finding a small forked-horn isn't a done deal for even the most experienced hunter. Other than just staying persistent, there's no consistent method that is...
The 325WSM is somewhat of an oddball, as are all 8mm's in the US market, but it's a heck of a cartridge. You can't go wrong with either one. If you shoot factory ammo only, then look no further than the 300WSM. If you plan on shooting 200 grain or heavier bullets, then the 325 is the way to go.
My only experience with Bushnell is their Elite series, and they have been wonderful scopes. I was more than taken care of by their customer service department with the one issue I had.
For me, if it says Bushnell without Elite attached, I steer clear, especially for $300. There are some...
The Axis action isn't that bad considering that it's miles ahead of Remington's budget offering 710/770. With that, I feel Ruger has trumped them all with their new American rifle. It doesn't come with a camo stock, but the two I worked with over the weekend were sure shooting some impressive...
