Np, I just wanted to make sure we were on the right track.
The 170gr Partition RN is designed for the 30-30. Between that and being a round nose design, it will be a shorter bullet and require different seating depths. It would probably be a good 300 Blackout/Whisper bullet too.
I'm a little confused, this is posted in the .358 forum but you're talking about the 30 cal Partition? Just seat it deeper. You're also loading the 170gr Partition designed for the 30-30 in a 30-06. So you will need to adjust seating depth to work in your cartridge and rifle.
Before I got a chronograph I never went above max and don't that often still, but I do occasionally to get the velocity I'm looking for unless I see pressure signs. Most modern bolt guns seem to be able to handle it just fine. The only rifle that I saw that would not take pressures close to max...
Circumstantial. If placed correctly they drop and die quickly. Blkram is spot on in his response. The more I used the shot, the more I realized I needed to be ready for a second shot. Most of the time it was not needed, but mistakes were painful, such as that big buck getting away!
Great bucks @highoctane
I used to really like the high shoulder shot but have moved back to double lung. I dropped one of the biggest bucks I've ever seen with a high shoulder shot, he regained his feet after about 30 seconds of not moving at all and I never saw him again. Not much blood...
Went hunting this morning and had beautiful cold weather and the perfect wind for my swamp stand. My buddy was hunting a stand on the other side of the property and had been watching a pair of spikes. At 737 two large does and a fawn came out onto my shooting lane. They were at my max...
Those No. 1's are such great looking rifles! I agree on the barrel length, looks great. Like Guy mentioned, since it's a single shot action, even the 26" barrel doesn't make it a super long and ungainly rifle. I have a TC Encore rifle with a 28" barrel that is shorter overall than my Model 70...
Man what a beautiful rifle! I aspire to be you when I grow up! I got a long way to go, I got my first Weatherby rifle in 257 Weatherby this year.
Is the 224 Weatherby based on anything?
My buddy loves Grand in his 7mm PRC with 175gr ELD-X's. 2920 fps avg with ES of 28. It's only a 22 inch barrel and was easily 3/4" at 100 from his Bergara.
What's the barrel's twist rate? Hornady recommends a minimum of 1:8.5 for that bullet. I don't believe most factory Tikka 7 RM's have enough twist for that bullet.
I've wondered about the x-die but haven't got one. I will say, I've never had an issue with any RCBS product. When I've had questions, their customer support has been awesome.
