    Getting older/different shooting priorities

I’m facing the same issues Charlie is, my guys are aging out. I’m 70 next nearest are 58 and 59. Drop to 55 years then a 49 with the tail end brought up with a 29 year old. Sitting in elk camp last fall on the last night. General discussion on the warm weather and slow hunting. 55 year old says...

    Getting older/different shooting priorities

Now that I’m retired I get to the range once a week. That keeps me out of Catherines hair for the day, as well as several evenings during the week, keeping up on my loading. Hunting is still a priority but I primarily worry about getting a hike in every day to keep in some kind of shape. The...

    200 Accubond and 300RUM

Run them exclusively in my 338 Jarrett for quite a long time. 250grains at 2950 tends to get an elks attention, if only for a brief time. 30 to 501 yards, at least 20 times it’s been one and done. Think I’ve recovered only two bullets. I’m planning on taking the 300HH to Africa this spring with...

    New Years Feast

We have black eyed peas, ham and corn bread as well, I actually asked why once. She's from eastern Kentucky, don't recall the explanation but the cue words, yankee and damn yankee followed by "bless your heart" were part of the conversation. I once made a mistake by expressing my ignorance about...

Bunch grass, Junipers and sage brush. Always liked hunting ducks in that kind of country. No waders and a Chessy? Can’t tell with the lighting!

    Factory ammo for 257 wby?

Gotta like one and done. When I was guiding the rancher I worked for carried a 257 B in his truck 365 days a year. It was never loaded with anything other than 120gr partitions. He killed a lot of elk, deer and a few lions with that rig.

    2026 Hunting Season

Both pieces I might have access to are pretty small by western standards, a section or two. Both however are near our town which is over run with mule deer. Some of them actually drift up into the hills a little so a tag filling opportunity. Both are the kind of place you can cover in short...

    2026 Hunting Season

Found these guys on my way back to the house, a neighbor has suggested if I do the work they’ll give me their LOP tags next year. Same unit as above, might have to do it to help with the garden raiders. These guys all look like they are related and could use a little cull work. Happy new year...

    2026 Hunting Season

I’ll keep an eye on this group of elk, best guesss is north of 400 animals. They are about 1000 yards off the road but I didn’t have my spotting scope to get a good pic. Part of the herd came through one of my fences a couple nights ago. The long line of little dots is one herd of elk. About 3...

    I call it "Yardcrafting"

Baling wire and duct tape, hell I know guys who have repaired super cubs with that. Amazing what can be accomplished, at least for a while, just by using a little “yard craft”.

Weatherby Accumark Limited 6.5 Wby RPM

2026 is off to a good start. I must admit the 6.5 Rpm is not a cartridge that comes readily to mind. Something else to think about. Well done!
