I see you had a mauser conversion, is that what you're loading for. If it is I would start with 46 grs of H 4831 sc and work up to 48-49 grs which should give you close if not more than 3000 fps from that 24" barrel. No problem with expansion.
My son shot a 300+ pound wild hog with a 257 Roberts and one of the first batch of 100 gr ballistic tips at what I guess would have been around 3200 fps. Perfect hit behind the shoulder. An electric chair could'nt of dropped it quicker, drt. I quit counting the off side exit holes. Lots of...
The solid base is a tougher bullet than a sierra Game King. I observed this by taking numerous deer in south texas with both bullets. Mainly the 140gr at 7mm rem mag velocity and the 130 gr in 270. I eventually went to the 162 gr solid base in 7mm for less damage. The 162 gr Solid base 7mm...
I've been carrying my 4.25" lightweight Ronin 9mm for a year now. The Ronin is coming up to a thousand rounds and has not had any fail to feed issues. It also carries easily iwb. I did add a wilson combat checkered panel to the frame for better grip.
Guy, that's a good looking combo.
Don't forget that the doppler radar is going to slightly undervalue the velocity due to its angle from the bore line. 5 degrees amounts to a loss of around 10 or 15 fps of actual 3000 fps value compared to parallel to bore as in the shooting chrony or a oehler.
The loads shoots consistently at 3/4". I did have one group that shot 1/2". I'm happy with the load but now I'm obsessing over lowering the deviation. It could be as simple as a better scale than the battery digital.
Last year I worked up a 270 win load of 62.0 gr of Ramshot Grand and a 150 gr Partition, Nosler case and Federal magnum primer. It shot sub moa group. Average velocity was 2949.4 fps. Standard deviation 19.23, average deviation 15.92.
I've always suspected that my old shooting chrony might...
