    280 AI Powder

I'd love to get my hands on RL19 or IMR7828ssc but those are nonexistent for me. Most of the Vihtivori powders are easy to get and Hogdon is hit or miss. That was the reason I was looking heavily at n150/n160/n550/n555. I'm guessing my CCI 200 primers will be fine. That's what I've got for...

    280 AI Powder

Looking to add a 280 AI to the collection at the end of hunting season. I've got a chance to get a Browning Xbolt 2 Speed at a great price and since I've been itching to get a 280 AI, its time to jump on. Looking to load 160 TMK, 165 TGK, 162 ELD-M/ELD-X bullets in Peterson brass. Rifle will...

    Winchester Stabal HD

Tried it in my 6.5 PRC. Was not a fan. Average accuracy. SD/ES numbers were well above what I can get with n565/n165/h4831sc. Velocity wasn't impressive. I gave up on it for serious applications. The remaining amount i've got will go towards fireforming brass or sighter rounds to warm...

    6.5 PRC 143 ELD-X

I found the 145 to shoot well with 4831sc but only on the lower charge weights. I had okay results with the 145 and n565. The 140 has shot better with n565 and 4831sc. My 4831sc groups have been great. But velocity is low with my current lot of powder. N565 has been nearly as good in terms...

    Grandpa's Old Rifle

Fun facts: NC is the largest producer of sweet potatoes in the US. Nearly 60% of US grown sweet potatoes come from NC. NC has been the largest producer of sweet potatoes in the US since the early 1970's. And I agree on the 165 being the sweet spot for 30-06. Grandpa was a IMR 4064 over 165...

What did you use to kill your first deer?

I was 13 and hunting with my grandpa in Va. I had a Beretta 391 20ga youth. Small doe came by and embarrassingly I missed her at 25 yds. Not once. Not twice. Not three times. But four times I fired and she just bounded off. First shot was a 3" slug and the other 3 were 3" buckshot. My...

    6.5 PRC 143 ELD-X

I might have to get some details of that 142 ABLR load. I traded for a box and have been wanting to try them. I hear the are a little picky at times. I just have a hard time using anything other than 140 TGK in my rifle. Shoots them lights out with n565 and H4831sc.

    6.5 PRC 143 ELD-X

Those were my buddies loads so I don't have a ton of info on them. All I can say is in his rifle they were very good performers. He killed an axis deer in Hawaii in September 2023, a nice buck in NY in November 2023, a doe in NC in December 2023, and my buck in December 2023. Temps ranged...

    30-06 and N555

I need to revisit n555 in my 30-06. I played with it some last year and velocity with 165 bullets was slow compared to h4350. Accuracy was okay. But not long after I played with n555 I discovered I had a scope issue and had to replace that scope. So, accuracy not being on point could have...

    6.5 CM 130gr bullet test, Part 5 - Conclusion

Dad and I have killed a pile of deer with a 130 and 140 SST in our 270's. I am sure the 129 will be a good choice in the 6.5 CM. I've only killed a couple deer with a 6.5, granted it was a PRC. The 140 TGK is stellar on game from my experience with them.

    Grandpa's Old Rifle

Got the word from the taxidermist that the mount is pretty much done. Just needs a couple weeks to fully dry and then I'll be able to pick him up.

    6.5 PRC 143 ELD-X

I did another thread a few months back. Grandpa's old rifle added to its legacy by killing the biggest buck of my life. She was made in late 1967 and still have plenty of life left in her.

    What did Santa bring you?

scope mounted beautifully. now, the bubble level on the other hand took way longer than i would like to admit to dial in. there was some swearing and i think a small moment of wanting to rip it off and say to hell with it. but she's dialed in and ready for the range to get zeroed for the last...

    Grandpa's Old Rifle

This a longer post so please bare with me. In February 2023 my grandfather passed away. Dad and I had been planning to take some time off work to hunt with him for the opening weekend of muzzleloader season in 2023 but that obviously never got to happen. Grandpa hunted with many different...

    Sierra 140 TGK

Finally got some on game performance to report back on. The specs on the load are: 59.5g n565 CCI 200 Peterson fired brass .035 off JAM 2970 fps Every year mom, dad, and I do a public land draw hunt in NC and I've been fortunate enough to kill some good deer in a small oak flat on the edge of...
