I always start at .005" off the lands. I've played with deeper, but so far I pretty much stay at .005". Never stuck a bullet and yes I know the bullet is getting further away as I shoot and the throat erodes...
For reference, I saw a deer killed with a 50gr .224 varmint ballistic tip. Shot behind the shoulder. I don't recommend it, but it didn't take 5 steps. 140gr 7mm ballistic tip will be very effective if used in the same fashion.
Definitely, standouts to me are 25 prc, 7mm-300 prc (This sounds like a beast!) and beltless 7mm rem mag. 6.5-270 wsm was pretty interesting but I'm guessing performance is very close to the now "common" 6.5 prc?

.284 Win/300 Savage
Hit it with my friends .284, had to track it. Found it in the brush 100yds away and finished the job with the 300 Savage I retrieved before tracking.
Recieved the scope today. Just out of the box, I'm really impressed with the quality. Obviously, I can't vouch for the whole picture yet until its mounted, holding zero and tracking. If that's all good, then wow...
I guess I'll explain my Winchester fiasco. 2 red/black bags of 7mm-08 with shallow primer pockets....had to cut them to work. No problems other than that, not too bad.
2 bags of red/black 7mm rem mag, 4 or 5 culled right off the bat for forming wrinkles in the shoulder or neck. A few with...
What's the worst you've seen? Best? Options are very limited still right now so we use what we can get. Winchester is the worst I've seen/used personally. I've had some good Winchester, but the last two batches of Winchester were pretty bad. Best I've used is Lapua, but I haven't had the chance...
You didn't mention it, but the 90gr E-tip is really good as well. More weight retention and penetration than a 100gr partition I would guess. I wouldn't be afraid to use a 95gr ballistic tip on deer though either.
I haven't tried H4350 but it will work. I've used RL16 with 140gr Etips which is right next to H4350. Both powders are almost too slow for 140gr IMO. You end up with compressed loads(Not necessarily bad), Hodgdon says 48gr of H4350 max for 2850fps in 24" barrel.
I watched a lot of you tube reviews and decided to give one a shot. 6-24x50 FFP with zero stops for $325 shipped...with rings, throw lever and scope level! If the quality matches what I've seen reviewed...that's a heck of a deal IMO. Just thought I'd let someone know about this sale if they're...
