The smoke pole spoke today; Schwarber is no longer a free agent...

Just wanted to close off this thread w/ a final pic. This is by far the darkest deer I have ever brought home, and somehow my buddy gave him some mean looking eyes... -B

    7mmWSM Model 70 FTW

Since nobody bought this, I fixed it up like I wanted and decided I'm going to treat it like any of my other hunting rifles. I had a Gentry Brake installed, put my preferred scope on (FF2), and last night - now that the season is over - I put a Timney Trigger in it at 1.5lbs. I went out today...

Since this is NOSLER's Forum - a product review...

Deer season ended yesterday. Now that everything is almost cleaned and put away my mind has turned to what I need for next year. Alas, I have nothing on that list; my life is rather blessed and everything that filters through my grey cells are 'wants'. (I did though have pics of 2 bucks...

    2026 Hunting Season

I had an exciting penultimate day of the season... Had this girl come in just before sunset, and when getting down to start the real work this guy was on her trail... 140g Accubond over Varget in a 7mm08. -B

And one more thing - I just saw that my post above was the 100th post on this board. Many thanks to all of you for making this a place I enjoy reading each and every day. -B

The smoke pole spoke today; Schwarber is no longer a free agent...

I saw this guy 2 years ago during muzzle loader season, and then again last year on this very day (also Muzzy season). Neither time could I get a shot. I knew he ruled this back corner of our lease, but in the past 3 years I could only get him on camera once. Not much of a story to share...

    Deer reactions when hit.

For years I shot 139/140g Hornady offerings out of a 7mm08. The only deer that didn't run 50+ yards were shot in the neck or spine (poor shot by me). All animals were taken under 150 yards. The past 4 seasons - after meeting all of you and starting to reload - I have double lunged deer with...

    Seward/Anchorage restaurant recommendations?

My favorite place in AK is in Seward, Thorn's Showcase Lounge. Get a 'Bucket of Butt' and a steak. Excellent food, atmosphere, and more. -B

Completed transition from Alliant to Hodgdon...

I'm not too hung-up on accuracy; I'm a big fan of simplicity. All my rifles are a .284 variety, each with its own brand of brass. All primers are federal. All bullets Nosler. And until this year, all my powder was Alliant (22, 23, and 26). Today I finished developing loads for all my rifles...

    7mmWSM Model 70 FTW

I bought this beauty 2 years ago from the original owner (2002 New Haven, CRF). He shot it 6 times and kept it in his safe. I put a pad and lighter trigger spring it in, the rest is original. I have the red butt pad and original spring for the buyer. I have shot this just under 100 times...

Hunting optics, What do you use?

I too am enjoying this thread. Thinking through the OP's question, in the past decade I have only taken one animal with my scope higher than the minimal setting. All my deer sans one have been taken on 2, 3, or 4 power. (I took one during muzzy season a few years back on 9x b/c I was trying...

    Different style Accubonds?

Somehow, somewhere, by someway - they must have been placed in the wrong bag. I suspected this, but just don't know enough. Many thanks for the help. -B

    Different style Accubonds?

Friends, please see the pic below of two 140g Nosler Accubonds. The Factory Second (see bag under the bullets) has the green tip, a cannelure (sp?), and is a tad longer. The traditional Accubond is on the right. What's the story on this? I can't remember where I picked these up, but the bag...

Research article on differences in handloading vs factory loads (only lead-free was studied, but interesting nonetheless)

Published last week: https://wildlife.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/wsb.1570 A couple things surprised me. Very interesting read... -B

How to stop cold bore shift?

TackMan - I did every thing mentioned above and then some on my mountain 700 7mm08. I literally spent 3+ years on this cold bore problem. My rifle did this from day one, clean/dirty/or in between. I finally found two solutions: 1) I shot the same target 24 hours later and again 24 hours later...

Bertram Brass and an orange hue?

I received some 7mmWSM brass from down under this fall. Last night I started prepping 20 of them for a new load. They had a bit of an orange hue before I tumbled them (wet, w/ Lemi-Shine and Dawn). When they dried the orange hue was gone, but orange was now quite distinct in the crevasses...

    2024 Hunting Season

I spent a lot of time this year developing the best possible loads for my rifles. Heavies, light for caliber, cup-n-core, bonded, and everything in between. My first two times out during rifle season and my season was over before Thanksgiving. Most years I feel lucky to even get a deer...
