    Tikka 7-08

Had it apart this morning, didn't see anything that stood out to me other than a few surprises of things I'd of thought would've been better. $1000 wood stocked rifle with no pillars in it. Looked like some light wood compression marks in the stock on both the top from the tang and receiver...

    Tikka 7-08

Got a buddies Tikka here to load up for. New rifle with probably a $1000-$1200 scope on it. This should've been an easy project, 2 things that should be easy to get to shoot, a Tikka, and the 7mm-08 cartridge, put them together and it should be like cruise control. Was expecting to be able to...

    New Tipped Hammer bullets!

Well that's not a bad option for those that want it. Is this the regular Hammer Hunters that you install the plastic tip into the hollow point or is it a completely different bullet?

    WHAT TO HUNT

I'd like to pat that moose on the rump with my meat tenderizer mallet and some seasoning. (y) :D

    Been doing some shooting.

Thanks! Last yr I didn't shoot very much, had plenty of supplies but almost felt guilty shooting. This yr I'm not saying I'm shooting at pre-biden levels, but if I have something I need to test or a load I want to work on, I'm shooting. Otherwise I'll die an old man someday with a room full...

    Outrageous Prices

Shop here has the IMR powders for $42, except for 4350 & 4831, they are $45. Hodgdon powders are actually better priced.........most are in the $32-$35 range, not bad compared to a yr ago. Cheap enough except for the commonly used powders such as H4350, H4831, and Varget, those are $46.

    New Tipped Hammer bullets!

Not to be a smart aleck, but my question would be why? Other than the price I've heard nothing but high praise for Hammer bullets for at least 2 yrs straight now both on accuracy and on game performance with their current design that they've obviously spent a lot of time figuring out. I was...

    Been doing some shooting.

That 52 grains of IMR 4064 with a 150 is an old standby that works. A new 1 to me was trying it with 165's which it did very well also, at least in this rifle. The IMR 4227 load I came up with seems like it might be a secret sauce in the 30-06 case with 130's. I thought initially I just got...

    Increase trigger pull?

Man hope you get it all fixed up. Don't let it get too far would be my advice but I say that knowing I'd probably tough it out myself and let it get farther than it should. Don't do as I do, do as I say. Hope it all goes well with great improvement. Don't want to have to deal with that if it's...

    Been doing some shooting.

Thanks Dan. In all honesty and reality I wouldn't need better than 1.250" MOA for any rifle I shoot. It's possibly I could shoot farther than 300 yards but not likely with my typical hunting. 1.250 MOA would cover me out to 300 and then some as long as it's consistent about it, but as we all...

    Been doing some shooting.

Yep it does it a lot with these 150's but is consistent about it.......like I posted above it walked that 1 out flier with the Sierra's in from 1 1/8" to .575 steadily improving on each .010 seating depth adjustment. I wouldn't bet against it not doing better with this load on a different day...

    Been doing some shooting.

A mix of different rifles but always include a load I'm working on with the Sauer. It shot Hornady 165's 1/2" on the button with both IMR 4064 & 4350. Moved onto 150's and the easiest thing at the time was just to load up 3 each of a variety of bullets at a set charge and distance off the...

    nice old car

My Dad had a Scout, don't recall if it was the Scout II or not. Before I was old enough to drive on the roads legally so probably 13-15 I ran that thing like a 4 wheeler. Couldn't hurt it. 3 speed on the floor and I remember I'd wind it up all it would go in 3rd gear low range 4WD out across...

Nice rifle. Old cartridge but a good one, not much debate in that.

    H4895

I got a 8 lb jug late 2020 IIRC when it was getting obvious things were tightening up in the supply chain of shooting supplies. Powder had already taken a jump and I paid more then I liked to at the time, $238. That seems like a bargain now. I had a little more than a lb prior to that so I...

    Buck rubs or.....?

I know you say you don't have porcupines, but that would be my first guess just looking at the pictures. Can't tell just off the pictures but you ought to be able to see some tooth marks here and there. Sometimes they actually chew on wood they find tasty for whatever reason and other times...

    Same or Different?

In fairness, most of the people I run into that have a bad taste in their mouth about those older BT's are not people like you or me that shoot regularly and follow every nuance of the gun and shooting world. They shot something that evidence at the time showed did not work for them, and it was...

    Same or Different?

I run into a substantial amount of people that refuse to use BT's to this day because of the bad experiences with the early ones, and hear the stories regularly. In many cases it wasn't because of lost deer, but rather carrying it out in virtually 2 pieces. The older ones are/were explosive...
