Good responses all. For the record I was very observant and made sure I didn't stick a bullet in the barrel. Reason being using the 200gr swc was I have several and thought it was a good use of available components.
Can't say I ever had any desire for a 10ga but more power to you. Same for a 3.5in 12ga. It's a 10ga load going thru a 12ga hole. 3in 12ga did fine for me for several years but whimpered out later on now using a 16ga or 20. They don't weigh as much either. For turkey hunting.
Yes, it is a 1911 Springfield Armory Ronin 5in that I mounted a red dot on it and the factory spring still in place. 3.5grs Bullseye is the lowest I had shot before and 5grs the most with a 200gr swc bullet. I was just curious how low it was possible to go. Yeah, I'd replace the spring if a real...
What is the lightest load you have used consisting of Bullseye and a 200gr SWC bullet? In the past I have always used 3.5grs but having hand issues I was wondering how low I could go and still get total function. Quick trip to the range yesterday I started with 3.4 ,3.3 then 3.2grs and all...
Nice looking rifle and a good caliber for sure. It's a versatile cartridge both light and heavy bullets do well. Several powders work such as RL22, RL19, IMR4831, H4831, H4350, IMR4350, Win Stabal6.5 to name a few. I have found it is best to use European made brass such as Lapua or Norma as the...
I drove used Fords with only one that had a major problem, rear output shaft and main gear in transfer case replaced 1977 model. Sept 19,1999 bought a new 2000 Chevy 1500. Six years later two weeks before I was to leave WV for Yellowstone the transmission went out. Extended warrant had run out...
You have a lot of good components listed for your build. Should be a nice shooter. I've been well pleased with the Douglas barrel I got couple years ago.
What little bit of looking on the net I've done, I don't see these rifles showing up. They were supposed to have started shipping late last fall. My friend has a call and email to CVA and waiting for their reply. Anyone seeing these showing up?
I'm getting ready to get back into loading, shooting 12ga for skeet and five stand. I have used Red Dot in the past and would again if I find some available. I don't have any on hand and would use it again if available but there are others that will work.
In the past there were some match shooters who would take mil-surplus loads, pull the bullets, dump powder than use same powder, same weight then replace the bullets with match bullets. Mexican match was what it was called. Somewhat quick fix but not always stellar results. Up to you but as...
Thanks everyone for your impute and comments. Like I said I have used RL19 in the 30-06, similar case and the 6.5x55 which for me does really well. I was kind of keeping it just for that cartridge, but having enough I think I will give it a try in the 270, probably with 130 and 140 gr bullets...
I am sorry for the loss of your mother-in-law. Can totally relate to what you're saying. The same holds true for my family on each of my parents' side. My father-in-law is 90 going on 91 who was a kid during WW2 and served in the Army after Korea. Kids today have missed out not getting to know...
Didn't want to hijack the other post on 270 win but was wondering if anyone has used RL19 in the 270 win? I have in the 30-06 with good results, about same case size but never got around to trying it in the 270. Let me know what your results have been. thanks, Dan.
