We hit Kachemak Bay for spring bear this year. The weather has been pretty cold and spring was pretty late so the bears weren't as active as last year (which I had to sit out due to work).
The hunt plan was pretty simple, glass a large tidal flat and spot and stalk a bear as it popped out of...
I had an 8400 in 30-06 that wouldn't shoot better than 2" with anything from their "problem era" in the mid 2000s.
I did some testing with everything I could source, but ultimately sent it packing down the road.
I've had a few of these in both Howa and Vanguard form. All of them shot very well and the Howa folks machine them as clean as anyone does.
I'd give it a shot.
You Tube has several good channels specific to reloading. While a lot of the content is pretty advanced, there are some great introductory videos to get started.
I've been stacking a little cash for a new build. I had though about another Nosler considering how well I've loved the one I've got.
I gotta say, that's probably not going to happen if I keep seeing these kinds of photos. At the price point these go for, there's no excuse to let that out the...
I don't think they're cast, pretty sure that's just a crappy cerakote job.
I looks like something under the coating off-gassed and bubbled up during the curing process.
I did just a work up with H4831/ 180AB in a buddy's 300WM.
Speeds were a little slow, but accuracy was there. I'm not one to exceed factory load data, but everything points to me seating the bullet long and giving it some more gas.
I really want to load up some H1000, but it's been as rare as...
I can only hope that someone will buy them up and start production. If S&W is keeping the tooling, that'll cramp things a bit. But in the age of CNC, that isn't the showstopper it once was.
My local stores seem to get a little bit in every day or so and it sells out immediately. So ammo is coming in regularly and people are buying it up.
All the manufacturers are making the common stuff except for folks like Weatherby and Nosler that have boutique rounds to feed as part of their...
I took my Nosler 300WSM out to sight things in for an upcoming bear hunt with some handholds. 180gr ABs over 64gr of Hybrid 100V. I've been concerned that I'm seeing some throat erosion since the rifle has been the "go-to" for the last 15 years and has had quite a few rounds down the tube. My...
I'd load 'em up and roll with it.
No disrespect to your friend...but the that rifle is shooting better than he does and frankly, likely better than it ever has.
Sometimes good enough is just that...good enough.
I didn't draw anything at all, so all OTC tags for me.
May is a week long spring bear trip in a new area for me- my partners did it last year and the area is thick with bears so it should be a good time.
August and September- I'm planning to hit the Dalton with my bow. That'll be a change for...
Moose aren't terribly hard to kill, but they can take a while to die. At moderate range, a .308 with a Partition or Accubond is a good choice. Put it behind the shoulder and let biology run its course.
I prefer a .300, but that's because I hunt moose in dead open country and ranges tend to be...
Yeah, prices are scandalous and that's if you even find stuff. My local shops have a bunch of odds and ends for ammo, nothing at all for components.
I'm very happy my hunting rifles are squared away for some time. I had though about branching out into a new cartridge, but I'm thinking I'll hold...
