Yes, I have done some research into these rifles and quite impressive quality. Cut rifling and known for being very accurate. Looking forward to doing some load testing.
Thanks for the information. I plan on keeping the velocities to match factory load. With rear locking action, don't want to push it too much. It's been a cartridge I have wanted for over 40yrs. Not too many around.
Has anyone loaded for this cartridge? Just picked up an older Schultz & Larsen M65DL and was wondering if forming brass would be a good idea or just bite the bullet and buy some factory brass.
Thanks for the information. So with the Optilock, I would need to get bases and rings, correct? Scope will be a Burris FF 3-9x40. Would that work with low or medium rings?
Good day folks,
Looking for scope mount suggestions for a L61R. Rifle in question is chambered in .375 H&H
Never owned a Sako before and not too familiar with the dovetail setup. Do I need bases and rings, or just rings to fit the dovetail?
Last time I owned a 375 my go to was IMR4350 with the 270gr and W760 for 300gr. That was in a Whitworth Mark X and would have been mid to late 90’s. Gee, I think it’s time to get another Hoot & Holler lol
I have always used Nosler BT for deer and have had great results. Every one has been a bang flop. From 100yds out to 220yds. All shots have been through the vitals, so no shoulders hit. Was thinking the SST might perform similar.
I was thinking of trying the SST as well. Never tried them on game yet. What kind of speeds did you get? And how did they hold up on deer? I have heard some guys saying they blow up while others love them.
I was thinking of trying the 162gr but wasn't sure if there could be stability issues with the slower twist. I remember using them many years ago in a 7RM Browning A-Bolt and the accuracy was amazing with H870.
Yes, as soon as I seen it I had to snatch it up haha. Good to know the DOM, thanks. I wasn't originally sure if it was actually an Accumark or one of the ULW.
This is actually the first 280 I have ever owned. And it's a Weatherby Accumark which is not a common chambering I'm thinking. Will mostly be for whitetail deer, so was thinking of trying some 140gr BT. Always had great success with them on deer. Might have to pick up some IMR4350 as well.
Just acquired a 280 and was wondering what powders folks have used? Currently have H4831 and since it has a 1-10 twist, was thinking 140-160gr bullets.
Got out to the range today to test some more loads and things seem to be coming along pretty good.
Two loads broke 3/4" using the Hornady 100gr BTSP and H4831. The larger group was 52.5grs and the next one is 53grs.
Unfortunately I didn't pay attention to which shot went astray. I will try the 4 shot group. I'm also going to check stock and mounts torque. Got some other bullets to try as well. Nosler 90gr BT, Hornady 100gr BTSP and some Speer 90gr SP.
Tried H4831 with the 85gr TSX. Not sure if it was me on that stray shot. It was pretty cold and my hands were freezing lol
The other group with the stray going the other way was with Speer 100gr BT and H4831.
