I've used the cleaning rod method before. It didn't work too bad, but you're right that measuring a couple of sharpie marks doesn't produce the most accurate results. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah...I think I'll go back to using the fired-case method from now on. When I got the shorter measurement I mentioned yesterday, it felt like the modified case "slipped" into the chamber a little more than the previous time.

Thanks for all of the advice everyone. I do appreciate it. The loads weren't compressed. I always like to shake each round after the bullet is seated to check. I think it is. I'm not a gunsmith (far from it), but I'm thinking my rifle has a tight or short neck...if that's even possible...

Thought about this last night. I used to use this method before I got the OAL gauge, and it's a good idea.

For some reason I didn't try chambering them after they were loaded. When I ejected the round at the range there were rifling marks on the bullet. Just throwing this out there...could this be an issue of the necks needing turned down? Is it possible the chamber is just tight enough to not...

You guys have any advice on a cheaper brass tumbler/cleaner? I'm getting tired of wiping down brass by hand one at a time. I've looked at the Harbour Freight tumblers, but wasn't sure how well they worked or if they're one of those "get what ya pay for" things. Any advice is appreciated.

So you're saying you're over the bands...and they are long bullets? I think that about covers it :mrgreen:.

I've played around with both the TSX & TTSX in my 280 & 25-06 for the last couple of years and one thing has been consistent with Barnes bullets...they liked to be seated deep. In both of my rifles, that's been to about the middle of the top band or about 0.100'' off the lands.

Speaking of loading to max or over max published loads...I ran a QL with 117 gr. SGK and R-22. I was a little surprised with the results. Sierra's #6 max powder charge for R-22 is 50.5 gr. According to QL 59.5 gr. is where the pressure is pushing max for a 25-06. Obviously there are a whole...

Thanks for the info. Like I said...I've got some 117 gr SGK's I'm gonna give a go with some R-22 or IMR-4831. I tried about everything with this bullet and IMR-4350 and couldn't get them to shoot. There's a chance my rifle doesn't like heavier bullets, but I'll see what I can figure out...

The box labeled "solid base" is an older green & red box. I looked for a date somewhere on the box but didn't see anything. I've got about 75 117 gr SGK's I was thinking about trying again. I tried working up a load with them a couple of years ago with no real luck...might give them another shot.

I've got a box of .257 100 gr. Ballistic Tip Solid Base bullets and a box of 100 gr. Ballistic Tips on my shelf that I was thinking about loading up. My question is...is there a difference construction wise between the solid base and non-solid base bullet or did Nosler just change the name...

With MRP & R22 being so close the same burn rate, you should have no problem hitting 3200 fps in an AI. I'm getting 3040 fps in my 280 Rem with 140 gr AB's on top of 59 gr. of R22.
