Almost looks like a headspace issue post-annealing? Seems like maybe softening the shoulder allowed the die to work it without as much springback? Just guessing, though. For sure, check the case wall interior for potential separation.
I don't lap to make them shoot better, though in extreme cases of misalignment it can help (due to not torquing the scope tube and fouling up the optics). I lap rings to do two things. First, to align the scope and rings with the most bearing surface, so I can get a firm grip on the scope by...
I suspect, based on case capacity and bore diameter comparisons, the 26 Nosler will have a barrel life similar to, but slightly less than, the 7mmRUM. That's not long, in any capacity. Take care of the rifle, and you'll likely get 1200rds or more through it before accuracy falls off. Leave...
Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm considering two rifles, but will start with my Rem673 Guide Gun. It's shooting hard right of point of aim, and I'm pretty sure the culprit is barrel channel pressure. Most folks I've spoken with or read posts, who have these same rifles, have found relief in...
Depends on what and how you intend to hunt with it. White-tails and similar game in open spaces where shots might extend to 300+? I'd go with the BT. Wooded hunting areas, game bigger than white-tails, or all shots under 300yds, the Partition will do the job and have less meat damage, though...
I posted this on another forum, but only got one response. It was valuable, for sure, but I'm hoping for additional input from the gang here at Nosler.
I'm bored. I'm not working, aside from some consulting work, which does not take up my whole day. I've cleaned up a ton of stuff, gotten all...
I shoot the 168gr BY in my -06. Performance on three deer over the past three seasons has been excellent. Shots have included clean runs through the ribs, a neck shot from prone, and a shot accidentally through the spine when the deer moved right as the trigger broke. On the spine shot, damage...
Also, perhaps try some penetrating oil (but not much as you don't want the inside of the stuck case getting slicked up). Might be time to send it back to the manufacturer and pay the few bucks to have them remove it - especially if there's not any of the case sticking out by which to grab it...
As this is getting discussed, I have kept coming back to my Rem673 Guide Gun. It's a 22" barrel, and mine is open-sighted. It's just about ideal in balance for me, and carries easily up and down the draws and ravines and bluffs of my mountain hunting lease. I don't think you'd be unwise to...
I was just going off of the "it's not an Accubond, Ballistic Tip, or Partition" clause in the original question. I shudder to think how my shooting and hunting would suffer should Nosler be unavailable to me.
I'm kind of mixed here. I agree with Tom & others who've recommended the Speer Hot-Cor, but that's under the condition you can find them. Speer is in the throes of self-defeat and destruction over the past few years, so I don't know what's ever still available. The Hot-Cor is one of the best...
It's no secret I'm no fan of Leupold. But I will say that the 2-7x28 on my Dad's old 243Win Browning BAR (an early 80s VariX II) is a great scope and really offers just about the perfect blend of magnification for 300yds and under. My old buddy CL is spot on with this advice. I'd opt for the...
I don't think you'll see much gain out to 250-300yds with a 22" barrel over a 20", and I also don't know that you'll see much gain in shortening to 18". You'll want to consider the balance of your right-handed Model 7, which you appear to like, and talk to your smith about how to maintain that...
Parallax is a funny little demon, and everything above is true. Also true is that magnification exacerbates the problem, and so you see parallax adjustments on higher magnification scopes to correct for it. The reality is, all scopes exhibit parallax at all but one distance, in any given...
Based on what you've stated - mostly coyote, occasional deer opportunity - I'd also recommend a good 243Win. There are some heavy barreled options if you'd like, but in a 20" tube, you could do a sporter contour and likely get excellent accuracy for three to four shots at a time. You won't...
An alternative to get a closer "silver" match for rings is Talley Manufacturing. The Lightweights are matte silver aluminum and look very close to most stainless finish actions and silver scopes. Added benefit is with no joint between the base and lower ring half, they are strong, and look clean.
