    The dreaded third shot

It's only been days ago I made it to the range for the first time with my M70 7x57 and had four groups of five rounds loaded with three different bullet. To my surprise the old Nosler Partitions in 140 gr out shout all others including the newer 140 gr PB. After three shots into 3/4" I decided...

    Bad Range Day

If it were me I wouldn't go the Loctite route. I have a pre-64 Winchester in 270 that I could not get to shoot better than 2" with the traditional 130 gr bullet. I pulled the stock to get a look see at the bedding and someone had done something inside that lug area I didn't like. I put some...

    Zeiss Discontinued

Camera Land has the best price on that scope I've seen to date. They must be wanting to get rid of them. Thanks for the link.

    Zeiss Discontinued

I looked but saw no "Add to Cart" on the scope, only the hood. That was for the Zplex reticle. The other had one.

    Sweet .222

I've always liked that caliber. I wanted the Remington 700 40XBR many moons ago but, it was out of my price range by far. As for looks, it don't mean a thing. I have a well known Winchester in 270 that will occasionally give me 1 1/2" groups but the norm is 2-3 inches at 100 yards. I'm sure its...

    Zeiss Discontinued

March optics? Ii could get a decent used car for what those cost. I didn't know the HD5's were that much better. They must be something to be much better than the Conquest glass.

    Zeiss Discontinued

I can't believe they discontinued the Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 scope. I just bought one months ago and thought of another for my potential upcoming 6BR only to find tonight they've been discontinued...bummer. That's a fine scope and tracks superbly. It doesn't make sense. Well, time to do a...

    Sweet .222

As most know, the .222 held all the bench rest records for many years until the advent of cartridge wildcats like the 6PPC and 6BR. I think it's still a fine cartridge and I've gotten some groups with it that can only bring a big grin to your face. Two of the best loads to date have been 23.3...

    Sweet .222

...and, quite heavy with the beaver tail fore end and bull barrel but, no heat up problems.

    Sweet .222

Any Sako lovers in the house today? I bought this Sako Vixen L461 with absolutely no regrets. It's been one of the top three most accurate rifles I've ever owned. Slick action, beautiful stock and superbly accurate with most any powder or bullet weight...it does favor the 52 gr Berger a little...

An outing with the 45-70 and the 30-06

The ol' 45-70 even does good with black powder in a single shot Browning and vernier sights. One of the good ones. 62 gr of Swiss 1.5 and the Lyman 500 gr bullet. The first shot is always a flyer.

    .270 with a 22" barrel

It looked barrel used-no scratches on the stock, no bluing rubbed off and the action was so smooth. This is one rifle that will only be two places, the safe and the range.

    .270 with a 22" barrel

Indeed! Here's one of mine at 100 yards and a 4X Lyman American.

    .270 with a 22" barrel

I've owned four 270's over the years and still have two, a JOC Custom Tribute Rifle(22") and a 1952 Model 70(24"). About 60 gr of H4831 goes with the 130 gr bullet like peanut butter and jelly. Ditto on the 49.5 gr of IMR4064. A great combination as well. I've found mine have always done better...

Lee collet Die for 222 Remington...how to.... ?

Looks like some good groups to me but man, that's some big pictures! What powder are you using? I've found BLC(2) and H322 gave me the best groups followed by 4895. This was a good one but of course, I pulled one.

    Scope for Nosler .35 Whelen

Leupold 2.5-8x with DD rings and mounts on my 7x57.

    Scope for Nosler .35 Whelen

Excellent choice. Got one on my M70 7x57. I'm not into detachable mounts so, someone else will need to help in that area.

    Cast Bullet Loads for Whelen

I've loaded for cartridge rifles before with jacketed bullets but not with cast bullets. I've had mostly BPCR's like the 40-70SS and 45-70 but have used black powder to load them that's why I wasn't sure where to go for data for the Whelen and cast bullets. Speer's manual list a start charge of...

    Cast Bullet Loads for Whelen

I don't think I've asked this before but with what all has been going on around here it's possible. I have a Rem 700 classic 35 Whelen and the mould I ordered to shoot some cast bullets came during my stay in the hospital. It's an Accurate Moulds mould with two different weights, one a 210 gr...

    270 Winchester Load and Primers

it wouldn't shoot groups like that at first. I took the barreled action apart and saw several areas inside the barrel channel that were black and shinny...so, I took some sandpaper and fixed that little problem then giving the entire barrel channel a couple coats of Tru Oil and decided while I...
