    6.5 CM 130gr bullet test, Part 1 - Setup

I look forward to seeing the 130TGK's. I have some for load development in my son's 6.5-06. I have no experience with this bullet at all...yet ;-) The 129sst has proven fine for Red Deer out of my son's 6.5x55 and whilst it is only circa 2,700fps at the muzzle, it seems to penetrate and kill...

    2026 Hunting Season

A couple for the pot from the weekend. The rifle shot was from a 260rem at 190 yards with the 120nbt, match made in heaven. Straight into a rising sun, one of the more difficult shots I have made because it was blinding. The archery fallow was the darndest thing. I stalked up on three of them...

QL request 30-06 w/ Nosler 168 gr ballistic tip

I couldn’t get my 30-06 to shoot 4350 class powders but did find success with varget and 165 grain projectiles.

    2026 Hunting Season

Hi Chuck, we don’t get Bison here in Australia, was wondering what it tastes like. Also what did you shoot that beauty with. They look like they have some size. Beautiful condition too.

    Hunting knives recommendations?

We have been more than satisfied with Benchmade knives. They have held their edge better than any other knives we have used in the past. I will however say because of that, they do take a bit longer to sharpen. Don’t think I will need to buy another knife, completely satisfied.

    Best Tasting Animal?

I’ll take quail as an entree and fallow as my main. Spuds cooked in duck fat with a side of broccolini and a good red wine. Be purring like a kitten after that.

    New Weatherby Cartridge Coming

Well Cole you were absolutely bang on. A 25 RPM just dropped. Looking through Weatherby’s site it seems a modern day 257 Weatherby magnum in performance but with a rifle that will hold 5 rounds. I am sure the internet will be a buzz about not needing a new cartridge. 😉

Weatherby Accumark Limited 6.5 Wby RPM

If I couldn’t get my 30-06 to shoot, the 6.5 RPM was going to be its replacement barrel. I think it is one of the best cartridges introduced in recent times, I just wished brass wasn’t so expensive. You certainly have that rifle dialled and glad to hear the gen 2 Leupold is a good thing.

    200 Accubond and 300RUM

I think when I wear the barrel out on this one, the 338RUM may well be its replacement.

    200 Accubond and 300RUM

Sure was. It is such an accurate bullet in that cartridge for me. I am really starting to enjoy the 300RUM, it is quite a tack driver.

    200 Accubond and 300RUM

Happy new year to you all. I decided to do a quick end of year hunt on a property that held fallow and sambar deer. We didn’t see any sambar but there were a few fallow getting around. I shot one facing me with the RUM. The bullet entered the chest and was found on the inside of the rear ham...

    30-06 and Varget QL please.

Also meant to say thank you too Dr Mike, much appreciated with your help in this matter.

    30-06 and Varget QL please.

So then I experimented with the same powder charges of Varget but swapped to the 165SST which I bought as a "what the hell have I got to lose" in trying to get this rifle to shoot. Well the rifle showed me what it was capable of and left me feeling like I was definitely on the right path with...

    30-06 and Varget QL please.

So here's the update. Shooting in a left to right wind of 10-15 knots with gusts, not great for groups but not bad enough to realise if things are heading in the right direction. From left to right is the 165NBT in front of Varget starting at 51.5 and ending at 53.5 increasing in 0.5grain...

    30-06 and Varget QL please.

I am using cci primers, didn’t think to use a magnum primer to see if that makes a difference. Great suggestion thank you.

    30-06 and Varget QL please.

That is great shooting and nice velocity from a short barrel too, (well short for me anyway). Unfortunately I don't have access to Big Game. We realistically only have access to ADI powders which do translate to some of yours such as AR2209=H4350 etc. Post pandemic and wars raging really have...
