Sounds like a minimum spec chamber and barrel. Working up loads should not be a problem with the help of the chronograph. Start low below manual lowest starting load several gr. and work up with chrono until you get speed or pressure signs. If that fails a new barrel is probably needed.
I have read that the difference between BR 2 and regular 200's is who worked on them on the assembly line. I switch between BR's and regulars without changes and have for many years.
Bullets on the other hand do require some rework IME.
It might just shoot better with a lot of copper in the barrel. The other option is have the gunsmith bore scope on the barrel and know if you did damage the barrel.
I had a 243 do that same thing. I tried everything, scope, screws, powders ect. I finally went back and deep cleaned with wipe out foaming bore cleaner. It took 5 days of soaking with cleaning morning and at evening to get the copper out. The 85 gr. TSX's with Ramshot Hunter went back to moa...
Starting work up on two E-tip bullets 168 and 180 for my 300 RUM for next years elk hunt. Would like to try R-33 any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone with good already worked also welcomed.
At 500 yards your velocity was about 1800 fps so that looks like good expansion. I shoot that same bullet so it is nice to see they open as Barnes says they should at that speed. Thanks for posting.
I have shot a bunch of Mn. whitetails with a 7-08 and it has worked great. I have not done any reduced loads with it but have done trailboss loads in a 308 and it was very easy shooting/next to no recoil and very good accuracy. I would expect trailboss loads in the 7-08 to be the same.
My reloading room does it for me as I have thousands of 223 case to prep. I did paint and restock a Weatherby Vanguard. I have done the arrow thing but find I am more of a rifle guy so of your choices I would do the Savage redo with multiple barrels. I can also destress with a brisk 45 to 50...
I have started using Superformance in a 6mm Remington. It has has been very fast and accurate. I have not used it yet in the 243 but would expect the same results.
My question would be what does he intend to do with this load? Is it for hunting, paper targets or what? To me the 200 LRX is not well suited to the 308.

Sounds like a tight chamber or bore. Have you shot them over a chrono? If it were mine I would load some at a starting load and shoot over chrono to see/compare speeds with book speeds. You could also have a gunsmith do a chamber cast and slug bore to see what they are and proceed from there.
You can shoot them safely if the bolt closes.
Maybe shoot and give accurate reading on load.
You bumped the shoulder back causing the ridge/shoulder to bulge.
