    Scope Conundrum!

Update: After I posted this I had the opportunity to go to the range. After a few shots and a few adjustments my grandson said, "papa that thing is still shooting a little high and to the right". I took the bolt out of the rifle and while looking down the bore I turned the elevation dial and the...

    7mm Rem Mag

Never used any Retumbo but I shot RL22 and IMR-4831with either a 140 gr Partition or 140 gr BT in my 7 mag with outstanding results for many years. For whatever reason I eventually started using the 150 gr Ballistic Tip with stellar results as well.

    Scope Conundrum!

I have a Leupold VX3-HD that I was resetting to optical center the other day and noticed I didn't have the required "clicks" to match the specification of 75 MOA. If one MOA is 1.047 at 100 yds there should be 300 clicks of total elevation travel. 37.5 moa up and 37.5 moa down, which works out...

165 Accubonds or 180 Ballistic Tips

Im not sure any true panaceas exist but if one does exist I think it would be the 165 gr in the 308. It's my favorite bullet weight in this caliber.

    Hunting in North Carolina?

Im in SC, about an hour and half or less from Asheville, and yes, super liberal and it is the San Francisco of the East coast. Plenty of mountainous terrain to hunt though

    Hunting in North Carolina?

The Chattahoochee National Forest encompasses over 700,000 acres that covers several states. The Cherokee National Forest encompasses 650,000 in several states as well. As you would expect those mountains are really tough. Those Mtns hold some big whitetails as well as bears but they are elusive...

    Red Shouldered Hawk

Great pic my brother. In SC we have two permanent hawks, Red-Tail and Red Shoulder, however we have other species at different times of the year. We also have Broad-winged Hawk, and the Swainson's and Rough-legged Hawks, they are rare but regular Winter visitors.

    Red Dot?

Red Dot is mainly a shotgun powder but has several applications in the pistol realm. On another note, I love those "powder gifts". I was gifted roughly 16 lbs of powder a couple years ago. 8 lbs of each IMR-4895 and IMR-4831.

Nosler Solid Base bullets are back

I've shot the 140 GK in my 7-08 for several years and they work really well at 7-08 velocities with minimal meat loss. Ive never had any desire to shoot 140 gr GK's in a 7 mag due the velocity design limitations with the GK bullet, especially at closer ranges. I shot either 150, 154 or 160 gr...

    American reloading email

I've got thousands upon thousands of primers, Hornady and Sierra bullets out the wazoo, and all the IMR-4895, 7828, 4831, H414, Big Game, powder that I could ever use. I could use a few pounds of Varget. The ONLY thing I know I'll be buying, outside of some Varget, is a few hundred of the Nosler...

    Loading .270 without the rifle

I don't own one now but have owned several 270's over the years and was partial to 150 gr bullets and RL-22, of course I did use my share both versions of 4831 though.

    Loading .270 without the rifle

I normally do not make it a habit to load for anyone without the rifle in hand but I got roped into loading for a friend of a friends 7-08 many years ago. Without the rifle I knew it would be tough but knowing this person wasn't expecting light speed velocity nor atomic clock accuracy, I helped...
