Thanks all this has given me a lot to chew on.
My COAL of an Accubond to the lands would be about 3.02. (I measured the OAL of my test one pictured in my first post, seated what I think is .1 off, to be 2.92 is how I came up with that).
So using Nosler load data's tested length of 2.83 would...
I have considered this. I gotta think factory ammo is seated pretty deep to accommodate most magazines, maybe I should try seating the NAB as deep as I seat the Barnes. I think you find accuracy in a couple seating zones might be worth a try
I've read to seat Accubonds at .050, and also at .100+ off the lands. Here is an image of an Accubond in my magazine at .100" off of the lands - so I can't even fit a the .100" in my magazine. I wish I could find an aftermarket magazine.
Last year I did a ladder test and determined a good...
Thanks PJGunner I think I agree, it's never done me wrong. I haven't been paying too much attention, has 17 been tough to get? Also, sorry to hear about your car wreck.
Hi all, I am looking for some advice. I have had good success with RL17 in the 300 WSM in the past. I want dial in my elk load here shortly for the year in 180gr bullets. I can only get a 5lb jug of 17 local, but I can get 1lb jugs of RL16. Should I go all in on RL17 probably with TTSXs or...
I've been playing around with the 25-06 and I'll probably settle on Retumbo for 110s and up if it is ever available again, but I see alot of recommendations for RL22. What about RL23? It is supposed to not be temp sensitive, looks like it will push the bullet a little faster, and for some...
I know, by the time I get em dialed I'll be out of 165s. Then I have a new box of 168s I'd try to hopefully move to without much change. But my long term goal is to transition back to 180 Accubonds. I kind of got on an all copper kick there for awhile but I am over that. If I buy a new box of...
Well here's the deal, when I originally seated these I just tried to match the factory ammo almost so if my math is right it is actually .23 off of my lands! I was thinking of jumping in to like .100, Barnes recommends .05. Both would be a big change
I'm trying to wean my 300 WSM off of factory ammo but man it shoots good. So I'm trying to match it. This is Barnes 165 TTSXs.
I measured the factory ammo at an average of 3130.
My handloads I estimate are going 3120. 65.5 gr RL17, CCI 250 primers.
I average .002" longer in my handloads for...
Thanks for everyone's comments. I just hate to be blowing energy out of the front of the barrel. And re- barrelling a Tikka is still cheaper than buying most midpoint rifles. But I agree, I'd probably be better off just buying another gun, Sako A7 long range has the 25-06 in a 26" barrel!
I sold my REM 25-06 because I HAD to try the out of the box accuracy of the plastic Tikka. And it shoots lights out, but it kills me to be losing velocity with a 22.5-" barrel especially in the 25-06. But love the gun otherwise.
Am I crazy to be thinking about re-barreling a Tikka to a 24"...
For 2020 I'd like to see updated load data for all the "hot" new powders - mainly RL26, RL23, RL16 - where it made sense - mostly the 25-06 and 300 WSM for me, but I wouldn't turn down 300 WBY data. And, I'd like to see a high BC .257 bullet - 115 ABLR?
