Just saw this. We kill elk with 150 Eldx over Big Game powder. 2790 fps at the muzzle. The Eldx is a surprisingly stout bullet. My nephew killed this one at 409 yards.

It’s the bee’s knees for the Mighty -08. I used to load for 5 7mm-08s and they all got Big Game and either 140 Partition or AccuBond, whichever shot better. Magnum primer. Varget was #2, great accuracy but waaay less velocity. P

He’s got brass on the way and I’m a Hornady Custom Grade die fan. We have Reloder 26 to try first, 143 ELDX. Can anyone help with load data? 24.3” barrel, 1-8”, Nosler brass. P

Well, sunuvabitch. I took a hard, hard look at the ballistics and once again decided to abandon the project. There’s just no advantage to switching.

I have a perfectly good 150 Eldx load for my spare 7mm-08 but I’m going to experiment with the 162 Eldx, so I get what he’s doing.

I start just kissing the lands, then move back in 0.04” increments. That’s what Berger recommends but it’s worked for me with several bullet styles. All I changed was the seating depth. P

Wow, 3100 exceeds 7mm Rem Mag territory. What’s your load?

I‘m betting 2300. A pointy 7-30 Waters with a heavier bullet. But hey, as long as he has fun trying.

Boy, I thought I was going heavy with 162 gr. What’s your goal on going really heavy? P

Yeah but now I’m serious about it. Plus I’m skeptical of the Hunter data. Nosler lists 49 gr as a max load for their 160 gr bullets, the Quickload data topped out at 46.

I’m thinking about a winter project of working up a 162 Eldx load for my spare Tikka 7mm-08. She shoots the 150 eldx very well, 2790 fps at the muzzle. She’s the spare and I rarely shoot her, so why not test a new load, I have plenty of components. Remington brass, WLRM, and I can load really...
