I’m thinking about a winter project of working up a 162 Eldx load for my spare Tikka 7mm-08. She shoots the 150 eldx very well, 2790 fps at the muzzle. She’s the spare and I rarely shoot her, so why not test a new load, I have plenty of components.

Remington brass, WLRM, and I can load really long because I swapped out the bolt stop for a LA stop, 2.94” or so off the top of my head. I haven’t tested distance to the lands yet.

I have Big Game, Hunter, TAC, and Reloader 26 to try.

Can someone run a Quickload to see what velocities I might expect?

Thanks,

P

You asked this 3 years ago....lol.

Not trying to come off in a negative way, I never would have known except I saw it below as a recommended thread.

Yeah but now I’m serious about it.

Plus I’m skeptical of the Hunter data. Nosler lists 49 gr as a max load for their 160 gr bullets, the Quickload data topped out at 46.

Well, sunuvabitch.

I took a hard, hard look at the ballistics and once again decided to abandon the project. There’s just no advantage to switching.

I recently loaded new Lapua brass with 39 grains of IMR 8208 XBR under 162 ELD-X bullets. I got good groups at 2653 fps and a 4.7 SD. I may mess with seating depth next spring. My rifle is a Bergara B-14 Hunter. I'll be ordering a custom elevation turret. I don't have 150 ELD-X bullets but I do have about 600 of the 162's so that's the direction I went.
