I have a great load using the 150 eldx (2790 FPS, little bitty groups) but I keep hearing that the 162 eldx might be a better choice for longer ranges. I load the 162 in a couple of 7mm Rem Mags at 2986 fps, with great on-game performance as well.
So what does QL say about the 162 in the 7mm-08? I can load long, close to 2.90”.

Thanks,

P

I ll be watching this QL request also.

Pharm, I shoot a 162 AMax in my 24" Rem 700 and getting 2650 with 41 grs Varget and 2700 with 47 grs of H4350. These are both at or slightly above max so work up to a them if you attempt. I have an extended Wyatt Mag and load to 2.910 OAL. I m .025 off the lands but out of magazine.

Shoots consistently sub-MOA; the 4350 load a bit better than Varget. Had her out this AM and 3 went into .580" Those high BC 162 s really carry a punch way out there. I ve shot steel to 1320 yds with mine. Scope out of up at that range else it'd probably go a bit further.

Good Luck

Thanks DrMike.

I ran the numbers for the 150 at 2790 and the 162 at 2700. I was very surprised at the similarities. It doesn’t look worth the effort.

I get groups in the .3 or better at 2790 fps with my existing recipe. A 5x6 bull and a bunch of deer couldn’t argue much with the lethality. I was quite surprised at the similarity, ballistically, between the two loads. Not enough improvement with the 162 to warrant the effort.
