300 WSM accuracy load? anyone have a good starter load

when the 300WSM first came out an extensive article was written about it's performance with certain powders and bullet weights. I don't remember which magazine it was but I do remember the favored bullet weights being 165 and 180 grain. The article is what convinced me to buy one. RL17 powder...

    Murietta California? Federal riot police?

Doc, you have to be of the older generation to be familiar with the Brown shirts but I think your comment is quite accurate.

    Murietta California? Federal riot police?

Heard it on the news this morning. Federal riot police and concrete barriers. I may be wrong in saying this but it appears that DHS is Obama's private army. Saw this coming a while back and if further problems occur I'm sure DHS will be front and center.

300 WSM accuracy load? anyone have a good starter load

My hunting load consists of a 180 Grain Sierra Gameking (works excellent on elk) 64 grains of RL 17 with a Federal 215M primer. This load will shoot between 1/2 and 3/4 inch all day long. Velocity is just under 3100FPS. Just remember, if your using an extremely light rifle extra care is required...

    340Wby

I have to tell you, after reading all this info on the .340 Weatherby I'm giving some very serious thought to buying one. No, wait a minute I don't have to, I have a .338RUM which the Weatherby is still trying to catch up to. (had to frost a few on that one guys, no hard feelings) Right Jim.

    Pig attack

As I mentioned a while back our good old boys in Florida on occasion put corn on the ground under a good sized tree, hide in the tree and then when the hog comes to feed they jump on the hog with a knife. I've seen a few of our more adventurous guys with stitches and other types of wounds that I...

    Your bucket list handgun?

Fotis, my buddy has the same kimber match. He's put roughly 8000 rounds through it and it still shoots like wildfire.

    Truly Astounding Leadership in CO

what a class act. I'm sure the residents of Colorado appreciated that zinger. Apparently there already is another candidate in the wings that is well respected by the people of Colorado that is going to throw his hat in the ring, and he is pro-gun and a hunter.

    Truly Astounding Leadership in CO

Doc, that is simply amazing. These are people that we pay to hopefully run a good and truthful government. Having hunted in Colorado for a number of years I've gotten to know a lot of people both hunters and non hunters and my feeling is Hickenlooper is going to be looking for another line of...

    225 TBBC 338 Win Mag 2800 FPS

Scotty, I've shot three Elk at 110 yards, 194 yards and 326 yards with a 225 Sierra prohunter out of my .338RUM and recovered bullets in two of three Elk. They look exactly the same as the ones shown in your pictures and retained weight was 184 grains and 188 grains. The partitions I've...

So what are you using this year???

.338RUM with 225 grain partitions and for back up .300WSM with 180 grain Sierra Gamekings for Colorado Elk. decided to pull out my 336 in .35 Remington for deer in maine. For piggies in Florida I really like my old Ruger deerstalker in .44 mag. 240 grain soft points work great.

Hunting Rifle Accuracy, what's "good enough" ?

I shoot from the bench just long enough to insure proper zero. From that point the sitting and kneeling positions get the practice. I do practice offhand but use it only as a last resort.

Hunting Rifle Accuracy, what's "good enough" ?

I'm very happy with 1 MOA in all my rifles. I do have days when everything goes right and I can get three shots in 1/2 or 3/4 of an inch. For hunting purposes I don't stretch my range much past three hundred yards so 1MOA is definitely plenty good.

    Young mulies, photo

Hogwild, I drive through Raton on my Way North on 25.That first mountain (the one that burned) always had Elk on the hillsides. Never did see any deer. That really is a spectacular area.

Hogwild, spoke with the motel owner in the area we hunt (oak creek) and was told the winter snows were average and the kill seemed down from previous years. Their seeing both elk and deer in the meadows feeding so it sounds like fall should very promising.

    Fatal North American bear attacks

I would guess that the wrong place to carry a can of bear spray is in your backpack. Isn't that what they make holsters for.

    I may join the club..

I've shot the daylights out of my Procarry and have nothing but good things to say about it. A lot of people at my gun club and a number of people I've spoken with at our public range have had good luck also with their Kimbers. I'm sure that every once in awhile a lemon will get by quality...

Thoughts on the Ruger LCP .380

Charlie, took my wife out for a shooting session yesterday and she shot both the GP100 and my P938. I think you can pretty well guess which one made her smile. The weight and trigger pull on the Ruger is a bit difficult for her but, unfortunately for me the 938 with the extended magazine fits...

    tumbling with S/S media

Thanks again everybody. I'm going to give it a try this weekend. One last Question (probably stupid) Do you use hot or cold water? I use extremely hot water with my sonic cleaner which does a fantastic job but does not brighten the cases.
