That is good news!
When I read the title I was afraid to open the thread.
I’ve lost a few close friends recently to this horrible disease.
We can clone a dire wolf but we can’t cure cancer…..
Looks like mine will be among the shortest….
.308 Winchester
30-06
.50 cal in-line muzzle loader
Hoping one day to;
30-30
I’m not sure how some of you all decide what to hunt with!
Some great stories here!
I basically hunt whitetails here in the northeast. Mostly “at swamp level.”
I don’t really have a stand out hunt that I can call my favorite, but have had many memorable times.
I would love to have an adventure hunting Elk as some of you do or have done.
Maybe some day….
Welcome!
I’m certain you’ll provide as well as get answers here.
Turpentine is an interesting handle.
Is it anything special or just something you like? just curious….
These have been great threads to read through and hear everyone’s experiences with. It is such a great way to share and learn from!
Another reason this is a great site!
I’m a late onset hunter. I spent 40+ years on the field, or on the sideline of a Football field, as a player and then coach...
I have it for all my rifles, (30-06, .308 Win., and 30-30), and I really like it.
I used to use a lot of Hornady brass but I’ve since moved to Starline.
I would easily recommend it, however I’m not what you would call an expert, so take my recommendation for what it’s worth…
Growing up it was always Saturday morning westerns and then outside, most times, to play cowboys, and Indians.
My Dad had a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington.
So my first experiences with firearms were “cowboy” guns, and lever actions.
I have your “plain Shane” 😉 Model 94 chambered in 30-30.
It is...
I originally came to this site to learn, and I continue to do so. I never knew so many different calibers!
I don’t know much about many of the cartridges mentioned here in this thread.
My first rifle is a 30-06. Because my brother has one as his main hunting rifle, its history is obvious, and I...
My first rifle was a Remington 700 in 30-06. It is close to ten pounds and a 24” barrel.
A very good “field rifle” for me. Kinda awkward to carry in the close woods all day.
My second is a Winchester model 94 with iron sights because I believe that is the way it is intended to be. No scope for...
I don’t have the arsenal that others on this site have. (Remember I’m from N.Y., so anything over one rifle is an arsenal!)
I have a Vortex 1.75-5 x 32 Diamondback on my Tikka T3x compact that I use for the close woods, and is basically my main hunting rifle.
I have a Luepold VX3i 3.5-10 x 40 on...
I try and save money when I can, but I also want the best I can get.
With that said, I love Accubonds, and now I only purchase the seconds, as my eyes can’t tell the difference between the firsts or the seconds.
They are extremely accurate in my rifles, (30-06 & .308 Win.) and the ones I’ve...
I completely understand the frustration all of you are feeling.
Our family has been N.Y. residents since the very least the early 1800s.
I hear some say “just move”, but that is much easier said than done.
Also, the trouble is that the left strain of this virus travels too.
It would seem that...
Here’s my Tikka T3x in .308 Winchester.
20” barrel, 1-10 twist, and is my still hunting, “practical rifle”.
I’m still trying to get a load figured out for 130 grain Barnes ttsx.
I have a very accurate load with 150 grain Accubonds and Varget, but just can’t get what I want with the 130s and...
Yes actually!
We make it quite often this time of year.
I actually like it better than pot pie, but to each his own.
We make it all in one pot so there’s less clean-up and less steps for prep.
Try instead of baking your biscuits, with your stew in the pot on a low simmer, drop your biscuit dough into the simmering stew, and cover the pot with the lid.
Cook for approximately 20-25 minutes.
The biscuits will be much more moist and tender, and you eliminate the step of baking.
They also...
Retired for almost seven years, and will be 65 this fall.
I get up between 4 and 4:30 every morning.
This morning it was 3:55.
Right after the time change I was getting up at 3-3:30, but have settled a little as my body has gotten used to the change.
