Yes I use the same bullet, the powder has varied.
All my rifles are glass bedded and barrels free floated.
I think what I will do when I can is run a seating depth test each .0005 apart and see if I need a new seating depth for the rifle.
Nimrod84,
About four years ago I ran bullet seating depth tests on my rifles. My 243CDL gives the best groups at 2.630 and the Ruger seemed to shoot the best groups at 2.645. I have sometimes thought the Ruger gave me better groups at 2.625 and that is why I tried the 2.630 when I did the...
If you are getting two shots and one out in a three shot groups should you seat the bullet longer or shorter?
I should have been more specific, this is a load I worked up a few months ago. I am talking a series of three shot groups not just one. I have shot groups as small as 3/16" and today...
I am forever thinking about different things in a days time. I most think what if I tried this, would this powder bullet combo be more accurate than what I am using, etc. The bottom line conclusion I always come to is, there is no harm in trying something new, or I am very happy with what I...
When working up a load I have always tested the powder charge first starting with 2-1/2gr below max and going to max in six different 3 shot groups of 0.5gr increments. After I found the best powder charge is when I start testing different bullet seating depths. That has worked for me for...
I have rifles that give excellent groups with flat based bullets but give poor groups with boat tail bullets. Of course none as bad as the OP has had. It would seem to me if his gunsmith has checked the rifle over and says it appears to be a chamber problem there is no need to question the...
I have always had excellent luck with Sierra 100gr bullets using IMR4831 powder for whitetail deer. Another excellent whitetail bullet in the 243 is the 85HPBT Sierra once again with IMR4831. I also have very good results using IMR4064 in both the 243 WIN and 6MM Rem.
I have always used Rem...

I would like to ask if say I am using Sierra 243 bullets in either a 243 or 6mm would bullets of different weights with the same ogives would give the best accuracy with the same COL? If I am shooting a 6mm and using a 2.860COL (Best accuracy) for the 75HP would a 80SPBT and a 85HPBT (They all...
For the past 42yrs I have using a RCBS Uniflow powder measure and a RCBS 5-10 powder scale. I have as yet found anything to complain about with either one.
If the Sierra 85HPBT bullet shoots well in your rifle and you are going to hunt whitetail deer or similar sized thin skinned animals you would be very well off using that bullet. I would also suggest the Sierra 100FB Spitzer, I have had excellent luck with both bullets in my 6mms', one of which...
I have been using the RCBS collet puller since 1976 and have found it to be excellent. I just looked at the box and the price was $2.50. I have a collet in a box I bought at the same time and the price on that was also $2.50. I have other collets for it but I don't know what I paid for them.
