Spent the day hunting lynx yesterday. This is their mating season, so was hoping to see some movement during the day with the recent new moon.
We were in some great areas I haven't had a chance to get back to in a few years. Including the area where I got my last lynx several years ago while...
With VN565, the 6.5 PRC will be as follows:
140 gr AB: max charge of 60.0 gr for 3058 fps
142 gr LRAB: max charge of 59.3 gr for 3036 fps
So not the same velocity potential as 560, 568, or 570. But until tried, won't know what the accuracy potential will be. And I will have to acquire some to...
After seeing the numbers for 270 WSM, I had to look at the 6.5 PRC, as the case capacity is similar...
The Nosler factory ammo with the 140 AB produced 0.632" 3 shot groups in my rifle (24" barrel) at 100 yards, at 2744 fps (spec'd at 2900 fps).
The following powders loaded to a max of 65K psi...
Ran the QL numbers for the 280 Rem tonight...and 270 WSM.
In the 280 Rem, with pressure up to 65K psi, max should be 61.6 gr of N560 for 3109 fps with the 150 gr BT or AB. (This is 45 fps faster than the max with Re-17, but uses 6.7 gr more powder to achieve this. Compared to other VV powders...
The regular Fusion bullet/ammo has developed a good reputation for acceptable to great accuracy in production rifles. I have never heard of anyone complaining that they would not shoot at least acceptable well, even working over the 4 plus years at the the LGSs.
The Fusion ammo has produced...
I believe that consistency and attention to detail is the key to good ES/SD numbers. Control the variables to attain this.
Case length verified, trued primer pockets, properly sized cases, consistent pressure when seating primers, measure each powder charge, and when seating the bullet, start...
Well, this list took over 35 years to acquire this handloading experience (over 38 years of hunting big game). It has been an enjoyable adventure! And it's not over! 😄 More to come! (Hope to acquire the experience level of DrMike, Guy, and FOTIS, just to name a few here on Nosler, someday!)
I...
I have been reading some good things about Federal's new Tipped Fusion ammo of late, but hadn't actually seen any here north of the border to try yet...
I finally found some at the LGS for the 6.5 CM and 7MM PRC, so I grabbed a box of each to try. Reasonably priced compared to some other ammo...
Nosler lists 38.0 gr of IMR4350 as max for the 100 gr bullets for 2700 fps (22" barrel). (Nosler does not list H4350 for any bullet weight of 100-120 gr) in the 250 Savage.)
Compare that to the max of 40.5 gr of H4350 for a 100 gr bullet for 2936 fps, and you'll see that there is a difference in...
I too have never had an issue with obtaining acceptable (1-1 1/4" groups) to excellent accuracy (sub-MOA groups) with Partitions over the years, whether I was using book COAL or measuring the jump to the lands as my reloading skills developed later. There have been many instances where the rifle...
My research after getting my new-to-me LH Sako in 257 Roberts last year showed that the 257 was hampered by the 1:10 twist, where many were finding that it would not properly stabilize the heavier bullets (115-120 gr) properly for utmost accuracy, and that those that rebarreled to a 1:9 twist...
Online research showed N560 as a preferred powder, but QuickLoad showed better performance with N555 so ‘ll try it first. I just didn’t have any, but do have the N560 on hand. I’ll be sticking the LRP brass, for hunting here in the great white north.
Looking forward to seeing how it performs...
I definitely need to run more QuickLoad data for my rifles with VV powders!
Starting with the 280 Rem, 150 gr AB and BT, and VN560...and then the 270 WSM...
May have missed it...but do not recall seeing the Nosler 2026 Wish List thread yet...
Still on my recurring Wish List:
260 gr 41 cal bullets for the 41 Rem Mag
New Wish List:
25 cal 120-130 gr AccuBond for hunting (25 CM; but with the new 25 RPM I see some demand there too!)
Well here we go...
I had forgotten when I first posted in this thread that I had posted in the Christmas WIshlist thread, that I had ordered the following rifle through the LGS before Christmas...

Timely revival of an old thread...
The new Hdy ELD-X is 128 gr with a BC of 0.633.
The ELD-M is 134 gr with a BC of 0.645.
The A-Tip Match 138 gr has a BC of 0.695.
I just acquired some of the ELD-X for my 25 CM project. Will have a 24" barrel with 1:7.5 twist as I am a hunter not a long range...
