I have limited first hand experience with VV powders so far, but what I have has been good.
Hasn't always provided the most accurate groups with various bullets in cartridges tried so far, but they have been acceptable (sub-MOA). (My load of WXR with 180 gr AB 0.442" groups at 100 yards)
If I...
Patrick, feel free to post pics of your projects for me.
Looking forward to getting them now that we have the shipping figured out!
FYI for those here: Patrick made me a double magazine carrier for Sako 85 magazines, and a wrist cartridge carrier for the 6.5 CM/6.5 Swede for when I am hunting...
I have eaten a lot of other game I didn't list. (Whitetail, mule deer, pronghorn, mountain goat, black and grizzly bear; all good - didn't eat the wolf or coyotes...always heard it was poor doin's to serve dog!)
I know when I was very young we used to eat critters from the trapline...
Domestically, mountain sheep is very good!
I've heard the old mountain men used to argue between it and cougar. I've had cougar once, and it was good, but not sure if it was better than sheep... 🤔
Hard to beat a young moose! And I really like elk too! And I also like bison and caribou!
The...
Sounds like a win!
Hope you and your daughter have some great adventures together with this rifle. The smiles and memories will last both your lifetimes! 😎 (and into your grandkids lifetimes.)
Yes the 338 Federal is a short action cartridge, and the Model 88 was a 308 Win. While it was simple to rebarrel, the feed rails tooks some modification to open for reliable feeding, as did the magazine too. Works great now!
Actually, all 3 were 308's. The 7mm-08 and 250 Savage did not require...
Is it hoarding...or is it the pursuit of happiness in our chosen passion? 🤔
Without the acquisition of a decent supply of components and/or ammunition for our firearms, how can we possibly enjoy them? 😄
I don't think you'll have an issue...but you won't know for sure until you try!
But if still hesitant, perhaps look at a Sierra 160 gr ProHunter, where the the shorter flat based bullet shouldn't be an issue.
Many do not like the pressed pattern of the post-64 Model 88s; I don't mind it.
Although the reasoning for my sticking to the post-64 versions, is that they have the "improved" trigger mechanisms.
Rogue River Rifles (when they were still in Paso Robles, and worked on the rifles that Craig...
Recently saw a Model 99 in 358 Win posted here in Canada...but it was pretty pricey! First I had seen in about 30 years of watching for one!
Still, it didn't stay listed for long, even though it was a user's rifle, and not a collector piece given its current condition.
Nice to see someone else having fun with lever actions! 😎
Look forward to seeing the 338 Federal once done!
Here's a pic of my Winchester Model 88 rebarreled to 338 Federal:
And the 7mm-08
And the 250 Savage!
Being a fellow left handed shooter, I understand your plight!
Short, handy rifles are just a lot of fun to own, shoot, and carry hunting.
All of my data for the 338 Federal will provide 400 yards shooting out of my bolt action rifle's 22" barrel (rebarreled LH Sako 85). This is where the...
I'm a little surprised that they would focus on the lighter bullets, and not make any 120-130 gr class projectiles to take advantage of the 1:7.5 twist barrel potential...interesting.
I would of also anticipated a 121-123 gr LRX vs a 115 gr.
But then again, I am not the ballistician that they...
I used IMR4350 with Hdy 162 gr Interlocks and 160 gr Partitions in my first 280 Rem, a Browning A Bolt. Didn't have access to a chrony, but max book loads produced great accuracy (sub-MOA; 5 shot groups at 100 yards would all be touching) with felt recoil heavier than the factory ammo with the...
