I crimp all pistol and rifle rounds for semi and ba's (don't own any rrevolvers). It's a choice as we use what works for the individual! I will say 357sig need a crimp as there's not much neck to hold the bullet very well. Probably any bottleneck pistol cartridges need it.

62-75gr would work the average on distance as lighter might not be as good when windy or past 300 yards on a 16" barrel.

For 308win to me anything less than 16" isn't very efficient. 18-22" for 150-168's is near perfect. I only have 1 308win with a barrel longer than 22" (26"rock river ar).
