Bullet and CZ,
Thanks for the load suggestions. I'm glad to see RL22 has worked for both of you. I have a 5 lb. jug of it, and I have always had great luck with that particular powder. That's great news to me.
Thanks again,
Steve
R Flowers,
I couldn't agree more about the different types of brass. This became very evident to me a few years ago. I was using some Lapua brass in a couple of rifles. When I went back to a more common brand, there was a very noticeable difference on the targets.
This will be the first...
POP,
Thanks for the 180 gr. load data! I guess we must have posted simultaneously last night, and I didn't see it until this morning.
I also noticed on Midway's reviews of the 200 Accubond, that you are apparently very fond of that bullet in large cased 30 cals.
Thanks for all...
R Flowers,
Thanks for the info. I find your comments concerning the accuracy problems with the Accubonds most interesting. Generally, I've found that if a rifle won't shoot a Ballistic Tip or an Accubond, that there is most likely something wrong with the rifle.
I had one particular...
I recently picked up a nice Model 70 Winlite in 300 Weatherby. I hope to start working up some loads for it after the first of the year. I'm thinking about using it on elk next fall. I am leaning towards 180 or 200 gr. Accubonds, but any good ideas on a 165 gr. would be seriously considered...
I'm sure the Pentax ED 80 will be an excellent choice. I've also noticed many prone match shooters use the angled versions. Good idea! Have fun and Merry Christmas!

Optics is one area where, as a general rule, the more you can afford to spend, the better. But, what looks good to my eye, might not to yours. You need to look through as many scopes as possible. On the other hand, it's difficult to find people willing to let you borrow high $$ optics, take...
Do you happen to remember when you sprayed your cases, was your can of One Shot cold? I had this problem with One Shot, and it finally dawned on me after a couple of stuck cases, that when the can was cold, as in close to freezing, no lube was being applied to the cases. When I went to keeping...
Powerstroke,
I've heard nothing but good things about Viht powders. I picked up this jug to try in another rifle, and didn't get around to it. I think this Swift might be a good candidate. If it works, I'll be wanting to try the VV powders in everything else! It also seems you all think a...
POP,
You are the man! Thanks for running the Quikload on the 60 gr BT. I'm going to check my twist, but who knows, it might work anyway. The rifle is a Ruger #1. I haven't been able to find any specs on their website about the twist they used. I will probably have to use a tight patch and...
JD,
I appreciate you sharing your experience with the 50 gr and 55 gr bullets. It sounds like both will do a good job. It's only a matter of which shoots.
I'm much obliged for your insight.
Steve
Powerstroke,
I'm not sure about the twist on this rifle. I will check it out. I also noticed while rummaging through my powder bin, I had an unopened 2 lb. jug of VV-150. I noticed that Nosler also had data for that powder. I'm tempted to add it to the list of things to try.
Thanks for the...
Yotesmoker,
Thanks for the suggestion on working up a load. All of the cartridges I have worked with I use .5 to 1 gr. steps. I will definitely follow your advice.
Thanks a bunch,
Steve
I shot a cow elk in the right front shoulder at about 75 yds with a 180 gr. Sierra flat base from a 30-06. She was standing about as perfectly broadside as one could ask. Muzzle velocity was approximately 2750 fps. She ran about 100 yds uphill, turned to go back down, and fell dead.
While...
