I'm getting ready to start finding a load for a Swift. I would be much obliged if anyone is willing to share their load suggestions. I'm particularly interested in the powder you used, and what bullet wghts worked best for you. I don't have much experience loading varmint cartridges.
Thanks...
Everyone is certainly welcome. I'm glad you liked the information.
I'm also wondering about the $$$'s! I've been thinking I might want a 3.5-10x40 with the B&C reticle. Now I'm wondering if I should try to get one of the old ones, or wait for a new one. Oh the trials and troubles of being...
I cut and pasted this from another forum. I thought some of you might be interested:

Sounds like you're on the right track to me. I wouldn't think a gunsmith would charge you too much to check the chamber with headspace gauges. But, if you want to buy the gauges anyway, then don't let me talk you out of it!
I hope everything turns out OK.
Steve
The safe thing to do would be let a gunsmith check the headspace. If you notice a crack running around your brass, just above the belt, after the 2nd or third firing, there's a real good chance you DO have a headspace issue.
Are you setting your dies so they just touch the shoulder on once...
GM is right on the money........about everything! The 280 with good bullets is plenty for plains game. Good bullets and proper placement are the essential combination. A 300 Win mag, Weatherby, or WSM, take your pick, would be plenty of horsepower for the game you'll be hunting. They will...
For Plains Game I'd go with a 300 Weatherby and 200 Partitions or Accubonds, whichever the rifle preferred. Oh yeah, there is also the 180 E-tip. Nearly forgot that one. Good Luck!
Steve
Has anybody been running one of these scopes? I was just wondering how you liked it. I'm also wondering how well the dots worked out for the cartridge you were using.
Thanks,
Steve
I'm chiming in a little late, but you made a great choice. Congrats! I've messed with 2 GG's, a 45-70 and a 444. They are a lot of fun, and extremely potent hunting rifles.
I think I'm going to give POP's load suggestion a try for myself.
Good Luck!
Steve
Last year I shot some accubonds into the Ballistic Test Tube. They included the 270/140, 308/165, 308/180, 308/200, and the 9.3/250. None of them showed any signs of not expanding. They all held together well, expanded nicely, penetrated deep, and made large wound channels when compared to...
I started out with a Rockchucker, but sold it cheap to a guy wanting to get started reloading. I replaced it with a Redding Ultramag. I really like it.
Steve
One time I mixed 2 lots of powder to work up a hunting load at the last minute. I didn't blow up. But, the problem was those were the best loads that ever shot in that rifle. I could never duplicate them with another lot of powder. That sucked!
Steve
Just my $.02, the Nosler Manual shows 53 grs of H414 as the accuracy and the MAX load for the 200 Accubond. But, I'd suggest RL22 or H4831 for this bullet. I've had good luck with both of them in the '06. The manual says RL 19 is the most accurate.
I agree with what the others said, go...
Ed,
That's an interesting comparison on the bullets weights with the Hornady Terminal Index. I really shows the heavier bullets to the advantage.
Do you have any plans to try Ramshot TAC? I hear from a reliable source that it does very well in the 338 Federal.
Steve
Ed,
I'm going to be loading for a Tikka.
The only reason I'm going to be starting with 210 partitions, is because I happen to have about 250 seconds on hand.
I really appreciate your observations about the other 2 bullets compared to the 210. If the 210's don't work out, I will keep your...
Ed,
Thanks for posting your results. I'm getting ready to do some load work for this cartridge later this spring. I also intend to use it for elk hunting. I was thinking about starting with the 210 partition, but have been very interested in the 225 as well. Good job.
