All restrictions have been lifted today on the Texas Ridge Fire. Spent some time looking it over and helping neighbor getting things back to a normal state.
Will stay careful until the fall rains!
I’m waiting for a few more “Cabelas” bucks and with a couple gift cards I should have a Garmin on its way in a month or so. Looking forward to the ease of use.
Re reading thru this has got me thinking also about Elk shot at what ranges. When I lived in western WA, 1 bull at 75 yds with 7mm RM and the rest were all muzzleloader kills , probably 5 or 6 cows and small raghorns. Been in ID since 2003 and been eating elk every year except 2 while...
We have lots acres in the west burning. In the years past just had to deal with the smoke at home. Weather is not helping, getting into the 110+ degF this weekend.
My wife came home today. She has been a wreck at our daughter’s place. She is better at home now but still pretty stressed...
I don't know how many others are dealing with wild fires but I've got a big one right across the canyon. Been watching it burn for three days now. We've cut some fire breaks in with a dozer thru mine and neighbors property. I've been cutting the weeds and brush back but already have a good...
All good stuff- As far as my wife using the 243. Between one hunting buddy, my son and I, we have probably a dozen elk, mostly cows with a 243. So we have seen what the 243 is capable of in the right circumstances. She is not an experienced hunter. She’s actually a very good shot. 5 deer...
My wife thought our “Shop/Barn” cat was saying good morning by putting its paws on the window where her inside cat was sitting. When she walked over…. well it was a visitor.
That was cool and all but our little resident mama deer freaked out with her fawn in the brush nearby. That cat started...
Absolutely ditto to what JD338 advised! Keep them clean. I have 2 BAR Shorttracs and they will throw all over the target when dirty and group right up after cleaning.
Thanks for the replies. I do have a Past recoil pad… somewhere. I will find it ,that’s a good idea. I can load down the WSM a bit for her to get comfortable with it. What’s convenient is we can shoot off the back deck to a 100 yd target. Should be able to get her ready. I would really...
With two Cow Elk tags for my wife and I. We had a discussion that a good shot with her BAR Shorttrac 243W is better than a bad shot with …. well anything. I happen to have a 300WSM in the same model with a Razor LHT. When I handed her the rifle to feel and look thru, two things happened...
Both my wife and I drew cow elk tags in our backyard in (8A). Add another year of not getting the Mule Buck tag I’ve been trying for. That 20 years of no luck on getting that tag. Bummer……
At least we will have meat in the freezer!
I’m glad I picked up a 1952 vintage 99 in 300 Sav. I had to replaced the butt stock due to oil damage but it’s in great shape and shoots reasonably well.
I’ll not let this one go.
Brings back memories! I used to plunk the Kalama beach over 25 years ago when I lived near by. Plenty of Steelhead made it to the smoker, especially using a slider like that. I usually had a small X5 red Flatfish on it.
Good luck on putting more in the freezer!
