What a crazy story. Glad you are all safe and getting better. With all of those injuries it seems silly to say how lucky you are, but damn the exit stage left hook was surely swinging. Get well soon.
This might help with some of your thinking. I chose the Hornady stuff for simplicity just because it is in their calculator and typically shoots okay. I ran the 150eldx at 3,000fps, the 162eldx at 2,900fps and the 180eldm at 2,700fps. Figured they were all around the mark, allowed for a 200m...
Don’t underestimate the 150bt in the 280ai. Driven at 3,000fps it is a much underrated combination. That is a bullet that hunters seem to overlook and I’m not sure why, it is lethal.
Emus and ostriches have a lot in common by the sounds of it, really tough animals. Also think all those feathers make it more challenging to work out exactly where to shoot. Great pics, thanks for sharing
150 to 165 grains seems to be the sweet spot in the 280ai. Unless you are really going to stretch out there those bullet weights are about a perfect match to the powder capacity you have to play with. Absolutely one of my all time favourite cartridges but just don’t ask more of it than it can...
I have a 6.5 barrel sitting at home waiting for a purpose. I have considered this cartridge as an option. Do you know what the case capacity is? I have been a fan of the weatherby 6.5RPM but the price of brass is hideous and I suspect the 6.5AI would be close, maybe between it and the 6.5PRC...
I have a remington with a 26 inch barrel that wouldn't fire any 165 grain projectile with H4350 which was what I thought would be the go to in this rifle. Turns out Varget was what it really liked. With a 165SST, I load 52.5 grains of Varget for 2,907fps and an SD of 6.5. It is a genuine...
I'm really sorry to hear this mate, a horrible couple of months. Goldies are a beautiful breed. We had a big old Golden Retriever boy lived to 11 but broke my heart when we had to have him put down. A man couldn't ask for a nicer dog, never met a nasty one. Hope Manny pulls through.
That is a proper bug zapper. The terminal damage should be emphatic. Funny how you don't hear much about Browning rifles, but they are some of the most accurate I have shot.
Every video I have seen of the creedmore and the 7mm backcountry as said recoil is the equivalent of the “sibling” case. I honestly don’t have an answer or the experience of shooting either, just going off what the articles say. Never made sense to me but sometimes I’m not very bright either 😉
I think when they iron out the wrinkles it is massive. A 30/06 at 300 win mag velocities without the recoil is an incredible gain. I thought the peak creedmore was super clever by Federal particularly selling it at the same price as standard ammo. There are so many creedmores out there I reckon...
I was thinking H4350 which would have a similar burn rate to RL17. Can't get RL17 here right now, or if you can find it, at a price I am willing to pay for it.
Buy another safe, then you will have room for more than just one more ;)
Where I live we have to store our firearms without the bolt in and stored in a separate lockable space. I put mine in labelled calico bags so the risk of moisture accumulation would be reduced. It is pretty humid in parts...
Dr Mike you sound a lot like my Dad. He turns 80 this year and still gets out and about. There is a stubbornness in him too which I would call life enhancing. Plenty of people at 80 are just breathing not living. Here’s to wonderful past times and adventures that keep us looking forward.
