After the case of Magtech primers arrived I decide to do a velocity test using the four different brands of large pistol primers I had on hand after talking with Fotis while trying to find a Brisance chart which would tell which primer was hotter.
I have Fiocchi, Winchester, Federal and Magtech...
Hi Paul, I only shot reloads in my M700 classic and was accused of trying to turn it into a magnum. I had managed to get 3000fps out of it with a 200gr AB but was felling heavy bolt lift and backed it off till the heavy lift stopped and was still getting over 2900fps out of it.
My 35 Whelen AI...
It seems like it was many years ago I was looking to go on an Elk hunt in Montana, my largest caliber rifle was a 30-06, everyone I read about was using 300 WW or a 338WW. One of the fellows here had a 35Whelen Remington 700 Classic for sale with dies and brass plus some bullets to add to the...
The wife was intrigued by the movie and looked up the recipe for Ratatouille and makes it on occasions for a change of pace.
Being meat and potatoes type a meatless meal is something one has to get used to.
Gee you're trying to get me in trouble, so I'll abstain from listing all calibers and say I have some I bought to use but they never made it into the woods those that have taken the most game is a hand built .45 caliber muzzle loader, 30-06, 257 Roberts, 35 Whelen A I and a 12ga slug gun.
Just bought a case of Magtech large pistol primer to use in my .45acp from Graf & Sons.
Ran ten thru my Dillon press without a hitch, they seated smoother than another brand did.
Hopefully they will be consistent and go off every time.
My wife isn't against hunting and likes a good venison stake. She isn't happy that the local deer herd trims here apple tree each winter taking all the young shoots off the limbs. But enjoys watching them feed in the lower yard.
Final reply from them with reference to their using 10s of thousand of these every day, static electricity along with on of their ballisticians loading thousands of these every year with no discharges and saying I have been lucky to have only experienced one incident of a prime discharge while...
Hey guys I've started round three with the Fiocchi customer service rep. He has continued repeating they use tens of thousands of these primers and have never had a primer discharge. I asked for a pre-paid shipping label so I could return them for a refund since it was my belief that they were...
(DrMike beat me to it.) If you don't plan on reusing them a drop of oil or water in the case will do the trick. If you want to save the primer and have a universal decaping die or just a sizing die with decaping pin push them out slowly and they shouldn't go off unless they are crimped in place...
Your welcome JD.
I tried the roller handle a friend has leant me and found it to add a little more leverage than the ball style handle that I have used since getting my first Dillon press, but it may not be for everyone.
I decided to measure the length of the Fiocchi primer and compare it to a...
Gave Dillon a call today and provided the info about the primer pop. The CS rep said he pass on the info to the engineering department.
I also ran a test to satisfy my curiosity and picked out 5 pieces of brass of each brand I have on hand, Rem, Fed, WW and Star to size decap, square up and...
Thanks for the reply and info.
Back in the day when I use to shoot PPC whit revolvers I would test primers in empty cases to find which ones had the softest cups and ignited ease with the lighter hammer springs used in my guns. Yes, I fired this outside with hearing protection and found out why...
Thanks for your response.
I do have a gifted RCBS hand primer that the good DrMike gave me that I use for rifle reloading.
Maybe I need to give Dillon a call and see what they say about using Fiocchi primers in their presses.
I know they use to not recommend CCI primers due to the thicker primer...
Thanks for the responses everyone. I do were a magnifying visor over my glasses which acts like safety glasses because it is wider then my glasses and gives me almost full coverage.
I measured the primer cup thickness and the Fiocchi's is .016" and Federal metal thickness is .013". I didn't...
